Republican Manners
There was a column in the News-Press (Fort Myers) today about a woman who worked for a restaurant and was doing PR work for them and they loved her, loved her, and after a very successful campaign, called her in to the head office and she thought she was going to be praised for a great job and, instead, they fired her, saying she has been seen with “too many Democrats.†She had been campaigning for Democratic candidates but had never taken time off for it, nor had she ever discussed politics at the office. Not good enough.
When the story got out, the restaurant management said she had “misunderstood†what had been said. They were letting her go because her skill set wasn’t up to what they needed. They must have taken business psychology 101 under Romney.
This is so classic of the mean-spirited character of many Republicans. I look around my island and out of 400-500 homes, there are about 20 signs for Romney and 2 or 3 for Obama-Biden. The rest of the lawns are all without signs. I am just guessing here, but if these other lawns are bare for the same reason ours is, it is because we fear vandalism. It’s just the way it is here in “God†country. And the Republicans sincerely believe they own God. Personally, I believe you get what you pay for and they are welcome to him.
We keep getting inspirational Republican diatribes against Democratic mismanagement, and Obama’s terrible record in the mail. So I mailed one back to them with several pithy remarks about Republican obstructionism. There was a “vote early†prod and I wrote, “Not to worry, we have already voted,†and signed my name and wrote underneath, “Florida senior.â€
Also, last week, I got a call, not a robo call for a wonder, in which a Republican campaign worker started to tell me about how Obama has ruined the economy. And I responded that Obama had inherited an economy that even God couldn’t fix, had performed a major miracle and that he and Romney could go to Hell and I hung up on him.
Well, he pushed my buttons, but if I had a do-over, I would instead engage him in conversation and gently try to get him to prove what he was saying. I would also ask him about women's issues, and i.d. laws and generally make him squirm with my better than average knowledge of what is going on.
So it goes.
