No Point in This Dream

I tried to reconnect with an old friend to Jay and me from New York days. I found her on the internet. After her divorce from our friend, Andy, I lost track of her but learned she had married Billy Crystal’s uncle. FilmMagic turned up photos of a media event and she was in a couple along with her husband and Billy, but they were tiny and I couldn’t see her well enough to judge how well she might be doing.

I phoned her and an aide answered the phone, so the answer to that is, as the aide explained, not too well since she fades in and out. She had trouble hearing me and was trying very hard. So I wrote to her and the letter might or might not give her any clues. Jay and I were close to her once.

It is mindless of me to not realize how time has caught up with old friends. Being Jay’s contemporaries, they were a lot older than me to start with. He would have been 100 in 2010.

So, so long past. Leave it alone, a voice says.

And I’m going out now because I hear a John Wayne movie coming on and the strains of “yaller ribbon”. Oh, help.

xx, Teal

Sometimes when I'm trying to sleep, friends and old acquaintances come to mind and I wonder what happened to them, how they are, etc.
I suppose I could find most of them on Facebook, but I'm not on Facebook.

The important thing is you tried. Better to do that than never get around to it and regret it later. I thought about you today while out back admiring my garden. Did you feel my thoughts?

I have mixed feelings about "memories". Some are good, some sad. I wish I could be more selective. It was nice of you to try to get in touch with your old friend.

Sometimes, we forget how time moves forward for others when we are out of contact for a long while.
