Iowa Doesn't Speak for Me
I am one of those Eastern liberals who wonder why Iowa has become the barometer for the nation. Iowa is entitled to have its caucus, but from what I have read about its selection process, it is not only archaic but heavily weighted to reflect the bias of powerful local factions. That caucus should not have the weight it does nationally.
It is ridiculous to have a system where any one section of the country, particularly one that does not have a diverse population, is the tail that wags the dog. The media is largely to blame for exaggerating Iowa’s importance, focusing on how well a candidate does there and suggesting that the winner has a powerful lead. This analysis carries weight with the “me-tooers†who will be swayed by those results.
When Michelle Bachman talks about “taking our country back,†she means reversing history to that time when blacks and other ethnic minorities had no say, no influence, no voting rights, and were dependent on white benevolence (what there was of it) to survive. Perhaps the descendants of native Americans should start a “Peace Pipe Party†and scream about taking their country back from the likes of Michelle Bachman. Bachman will likely win the Iowa caucus, another excellent reason to believe that what they think is crap.
