Chewy

Our boy, Chewy, died a little after 7 p.m. tonight. He had fallen into a coma but was still breathing, and then he stopped. Ed was with him just before and said he raised his head and coughed. And he left him for a moment and when he returned to him, he was gone.

R.I.P. dearest Chewy.

xx, Teal

Oh! This is terribly sad and hard to endure. Our little animal guys, they make life bearable. I agree that keeping a lock of fur, ashes, or whatever, plus a picture close by helps.

Grief is important and to be respected. It's like a physical law about natural bonds. I don't know how exactly it is with a pet cat, but with my dog I felt I was upholding a vow made to him to keep him from suffering more than he could stand -- the limits of which I had a very good idea. Cats are different and I would guess it gets even more complicated.

I don't bear animal loss well at all. They are like my children and it is agonizing to not be able to help them through their distress and I will cry for months on and off. It is what it is.

Make a little shrine. A photo or two, the urn when you get it. A candle now and then. It helps. It brings him "home."

thanks, jon. I have two tins with Scratch and Sniff. We will have a carved box for Chewy. They'll all be together in the piano area that I call my "Poet's Corner".

thank you Fredo -- I lost a great buddy, and I am feeling very fragile.

I'm gutted. Love.

Thanks Jon. Everything I do now reminds me he is not here. Two, not three kitty dishes, an empty desk top (his space), no company during my morning routine. We just got back from the crematorium. Letting him go was traumatic.

Only another pet lover can understand the sorrow you feel. They are so
dear to us.

Teal, I am so sorry for your loss. Remembering the good times and special moments will ease your pain but the sense of loss never goes away.

thanks for your kind words. Chewy always came to me in the morning while I did my ballet stretches. He'd sit close and if I didn't find time to pet him, he would meow, so I'd stop and give him some attention. Tomorrow he won't be there. My very sweet cat ... I am heartbroken.

Thanks Ms. Trout. This is hitting me pretty hard. I guess it has been that kind of year.
