CBS Dirty Tricks

Three weeks ago, CBS had a fight with Dish network. They wanted Dish to charge its customers (us) more. I don’t know the details and it doesn’t make sense, because CBS is not a premium channel Anyway, CBS removed themselves from Dish and I couldn’t watch my favorite program, The Good Wife. I streamed it on Amazon and paid $2.99 for each episode I missed. But before I could do this, I had to call Amazon and get walked through the process of signing their “conditions”.

Last week, Ed saw an article in the paper that said the situation was resolved and I checked the CBS channel right away and there was pregame stuff for the Super Bowl, so obviously they all decided to play nice because big bucks were involved. I never know when the Super Bowl is on, nor do I pay attention to the Emmies, the Oscars, the Tonys. If one of my programs is the victim, I am not happy. I would rather watch anything else, except maybe for religious programming and another Vera Hruba Ralston or Randolph Scott festival.

Do the fans really want this much lead up? And CBS runs games on Sunday nights through the year and if they go into overtime, not at all uncommon, my programs (I also like Madame Secretary that comes on just before The Good Wife) are delayed, if I get to watch them at all. A lot of wake up and smell the coffee is also going on with brain injuries to the players in later life, and sometimes not so later, and I am starting not to care because you can’t fix clueless.

I do think they have to change the way the game is played and the coaches should show their teams videos of retired players with dementia so they can wind down the violence on the field. Do fans like to see the mayhem? I’m guessing some do. Do you think young players today would go on as they have if they knew they could be drooling and staring vacantly into space by age 50?

With sincere apologies to all my MyBloggers friends who love footabolo, as my Mom used to call it.

xx, Teal

Yeah the cable and tv networks have us by the short ones. That's why I told the cable company to go pound it somewhere and subscribed to Netflix. We had a bit of a Superbowl....I mean "Big Game" party( don't wanna get sued by the NFL, speaking of entertainment a--holes). Denver won as I had predicted much to the delight of many here at Shady Pines. Carolina was such a favorite going in I knew the Mob would not let all that money ride on pure chance.

The TV networks and channels lease their airwaves from the US government, or, as we say, from the people. They should have their licenses yanked if they black out programming.

The CBS station in Las Vegas had the same problem and my cousin Betsy was without her favorite programs: Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right for awhile. We worried about what she was going to have to look forward to every day, breathed a sigh of relief when the problem was resolved.

When I was a kid, Tom Seaver was a Met and Micky Mantel was a Yankee (baseball). Never did watch other sports, but when big money replaced team loyalty I gave up on baseball and my interest in sports evaporated completely. Do fans watch NASCAR waiting for the spectacular crash? Well, I'm not a fan, but I do see any other purpose in watching cars go round and round. I doubt that football would fly as a gurly game. But there too you'd have to ask a fan. The question that has puzzled me is why women became interested in such crap. Kristy, where are you?

Some women/girls actually do like the game. I go to Super Bowl parties when I'm invited, I help myself to good eats, and talk with other spouses and girlfriends who are also there to be accommodating, but aren't interested in the reason. Somewhere in the background, there is the din of the game. Ed also not a fan, although he will watch the screen now and then. And the next day, I always want to know who won. Does that make me a fan?

When I was young and single I attended the office Grey Cup party every year. Was I there to watch the game? Hell no. I was there for the good eats and the guys, who all pretended to love the sport. Grey Cup....that was football....right?
