Update City (Even Though I Live in the Country)

I missed hopping on the computer yesterday, because I got up early to drive to my daughter's house (45' away). Then I rode with my SIL another hour plus, to our site of work.

You see, he bought $18,000 worth of used greenhouses--four 150 foot long monsters, plus heaters, fans, benches, etc. Our job? To bring them down.

If they're built to withstand storms and rain, volcanoes and earthquakes(!), they are built to withstand humans attempting to tear them down.

With all the heat and humidity, not to mention sprinkling systems, these giant puppies are one big rust bucket in the nuts and bolts department. It took us all day to get just one disassembled.

He has help (younger help) for the weekend. I'm done--in more ways than one! I was one tired dog last night.

As an aside, this area, down by Terre Haute, is located on a huge bed of sand, geologically, very interesting. I'm guessing the sand deposits are from an ancient glacier(s). But it could be river deposits (Wabash). The small town nearby is called Sandcut. I'll have to google it.

Anyway, I'm taking it easy today--football games! My cold is in the drainage stage. I feel okay, just weaker than normal.
Have a good weekend.

Wow. Reassembling them is going to be a job too! Do you even know how to take it easy a little?

At last word, my SIL is still at it. At least he has had good weather. I don't envy his reassembling them.

Don't take on too much, listen to your body if it says 'rest'

Yes ma'am, er, Dr. ma'am. We'll see about that.

I admire your energy, and I like to read how you tackle things with gusto. I used to have sustained energy to burn, before my fibromyalgia, which I've had for 20 years, really flared up 7 years ago. So I'm cheering you on! Hope you enjoy the library art fair. Sounds like fun!

I hurts me to know you can't do "normal" things with your fibromyalgia. It's bad enough I have arthritis. But you have a good attitude. The library art show was a disappointment. I saw some things I would have liked to buy, but the prices were too high. Anything over $100 is out of my price range--not really, but that's the limit I place on my wallet. Maybe next year.

Is that why I'm forever over-tired?

Do you have one of those homemade mouse traps...you know with the bucket filled with water? I have one in my garage that Troy built. I had my doubts but it does work pretty well.

As a matter of fact, I DO have a "water mouse trap". It's my sump pump hole. I'm forever smelling something disgusting, only to find a mouse or two rotting away in water. Removing them is not a job for the faint of heart!

Sand could also be beach deposits from glacial lakes. The entire Ohio River basin from someplace in SW Indiana up to PA was a giant meltwater lake for nearly 2500 years until the ice tongue below it broke away. The many low sand ridges around here were beach deposits from the receding Lake Maumee, which became Erie when it settled.

By jove, I bet you're right. Sounds plausible. I looked it up but found nothing. They had to bury the greenhouse posts in concrete, since the sand wasn't firm enough to hold them down. There is virtually no topsoil.

Um, weren't you supposed to be taking it easy? Cuz last time I checked, tearing down anything, especially greenhouses, did not fall under that category. You weren't joking about needing someone to tie you down to get you to rest...I'd do it but then I would have to bring Julian. Hm. Maybe you could talk to him about mouse traps!
comment by juliansmom on Nov 13, 2010 5:52 PM ()
Speaking of which (mousetraps), the one I had set didn't "spring" last night when the mouse ate the bait. Grrr. I don't remember saying I was going to rest up, but I didn't mean it, evidently. You know: there's no rest for the wicked.

After yesterday you deserve the rest.
comment by nittineedles on Nov 13, 2010 10:08 AM ()
Rest? It's all relative. I jogged 6 miles and did chores on my "day off"!

You country boys are always doing something--you will have to learn from us city boys the art of doing nothing!!

It's called the balance of nature.

I envy your energy. Wishing you an enjoyable, rest-filled weekend!

Hope it doesn't sound like I'm boasting (about my energy). I'm just doing what needs to be done. I'll be splitting wood today, before and after a trip to the library art fair. I might even buy something!

You seem to be a glutton for work. Better you than me. Take it easy. Rest up. You'll think of something else tomorrow.
comment by tealstar on Nov 13, 2010 7:06 AM ()
It's really difficult for me to be inactive. Between supper and bedtime is my "down time". I read and relax in the recliner, maybe play the piano for awhile. Computer time in the morning is quiet time, also.

Today is a perfect day for you to take it easy! I am glad you finally will... you need rest! Are you feeling any better at all though? Sounds like that project with the greenhouse was no fun at all.
comment by kristilyn3 on Nov 13, 2010 6:37 AM ()
Actually, the day was beautiful, and I enjoyed being outdoors working on a project that will help my kids. I confess that I couldn't just sit around all day watching football games. I went out and ran 6 miles, which took an hour. No after-effects in my cold situation. Felt great. Thanks for your concern.
reply by solitaire on Nov 14, 2010 5:38 AM ()
My game is not till tomorrow night.
Was hoping that it was an afternoon game.Guess not.
Take it easy there and enjoy the weekend watching the games.
comment by fredo on Nov 13, 2010 6:33 AM ()
I will non-commit for "your" game. I'm not a fan of either team. But I'll watch. Good luck.

Please tell me what he is planning on doing with these monsters? I don't know where you find all your energy. You always seem to have a project going or are helping someone with their projects. My project today is to get my house clean so I can watch the Georgia-Auburn game at 3:30. GO DAWGS!
comment by gapeach on Nov 13, 2010 5:59 AM ()
Newton was too much for your dawgs. I channel flipped among 3 games.
My energy? Well, it's waning with age, but I have my little secrets.
