October Ends with a Bang

Like Linus, I stayed up late last night waiting for the Great Pumpkin. My gifts were a Giants victory (I'm rooting against Texas because of the Bush connection) and a N.O. Saints win (Drew Brees went to Purdue). I just don't understand why these games have to be played so late in the evening. My sleep patterns have been thrown way off, and I'm not sleeping well lately.

Perhaps another reason I've been having trouble sleeping is all the bad food I've been eating. Friday night, I ate Chinese with my sister (Dad opted out with his usual excuses). Of course, I had to try everything on the buffet tables. I virtually ate myself sick, but oh, was it delicious!

Then Saturday afternoon, I went to a 50th anniversary party for a friend, where I again stuffed myself and drank too much wine. Not good, but I'm a glutten--literally and for punishment.

I tried to atone for my epicurean sins by jogging (7 mi) and splitting wood Sunday. But I hurt my cause when I made and ate an apple "crow's nest" pie (of sorts).

So ended October with a bang. I'm going to try to be a good boy this November--at least up until Thanksgiving!

You only live once. Go for the gusto.
comment by elderjane on Nov 2, 2010 5:48 AM ()
Yes, but I never want my "gusto" to come to an end! Life is TOO short.

The trade-off of calories consumed vs. calories burned is blatantly unfair! Banana bread sounds good. I never bake it, because I don't grow bananas! Persimmon bread, yes.

(This is for "Red".)

Mr. Tbend was rooting for San Francisco, but sorry the Rangers lost tonight because he would have liked the World Series to last longer. This is the time of year when non-fans learn the names and idiosyncrasies of the various ball players, my favorites were that pitcher who looks like Emo Phillips and Buster somebody because I liked the name Buster.

I felt no connection to either team, nor their players. I'm glad it's all over (yawn).

I find that the better I eat, the more the "bad food"
affects me. After awhile, it's just not worth eating the
bad stuff.

I think I understand what you're saying. I need to cut out the bad snack foods, esp. late night chips. Someone should be slapping my hands.

I am sure with your lifestyle you can handle the occasional splurge! You'll be fine....

You are precisely reinforcing my rationalization! But if I binge too much, I get a "spare tire". I listen to my mirror and scales.
reply by solitaire on Nov 2, 2010 5:40 AM ()
It takes me more than a week of strict weight watching to undo a binge. It had better be worth it.
comment by tealstar on Nov 1, 2010 10:36 AM ()
Yup. For me, however, I usually walk/jog a little extra each day for a week. The two of us should have to worry!
reply by solitaire on Nov 2, 2010 5:37 AM ()
Not bad. With all the good food there. Our game came on four fifteen.
This is the NE Pat.Brady still can sling the ball.
I did so want Texas to win,the manager of that team has done a great job there in reaching the series. He is a down earth guy.
Randy do not take it on the team.Just Bush and his cronies.Never gave this a thought.Giants are a great team.Hope that Texas salvage another win.Your dad was smart to opt out.

The Series is now over. Now I can go back to rooting for the Cubs--an exercise in futility. My dad was smart on not eating with us, only because he didn't have to pick up the tab.

Nope not a bang--a binge!!!

Relish every moment, Randy.

Believe me, I do--with only a tiny pang of guilt.

I also overindulged with eating this weekend on one of my favorites...banana bread. Now, I will have to work extra long on the bicycle to work it off.

Dang--response up top.

Being good is highly overrated.
comment by juliansmom on Nov 1, 2010 6:17 AM ()
I agree! The promise of heaven isn't enough to keep me from being "sinful"! (and I disagree with Jon's added comment!)
reply by solitaire on Nov 2, 2010 5:27 AM ()
Food is overrated, too.
reply by jondude on Nov 1, 2010 6:31 AM ()
As long as you enjoyed yourself you will get over your bout of over indulgence (I speak from 'experience')
Think of it as 'practice' - ready for Thanksgiving
comment by febreze on Nov 1, 2010 6:06 AM ()
True. I was a "good boy" yesterday, plus I exercised extra hard. Thanks for dropping by.
