I woke up this morning wondering what I was going to write about here. I still don't know.
The weather, as predicted, has taken a turn for the worse. It's cold, sleeting, and windy. Fortunately, I took advantage of 3 nice days to play golf (twice), jog, and best of all, work outside.
I finally got my gutters cleaned out. Leaves, pine needles, debris filled them to the top--all in one season. Cleaning them out means climbing my extension ladder two stories, which scares me to death--at least the first time up and down. Am I getting too old for that foolishness? Nah.
And yes, I cleaned up the garden, roto-tilled and planted a potato patch. I used up last year's potatoes which were sprouting and shriveling badly. I'm sort of glad today's weather is miserable, so I can rest up.
I plan to read a lot today. I'm into the fourth of 6 library books I picked up 10 days ago. I won't bore you with the titles, but they're all good. My new "profile" quote came out of "The Man Who Invented Christmas" (by Les Standiford), about "How Charles Dickens's 'A Christmas Carol' rescued his career and revived our holiday spirits".
After reading "Moral Landscape" (by Sam Harris, noted atheist), I needed a light book! Whew!
I read this morning where Newt Gingrich has changed his stance by flip-flopping on the bombing raids authorized by Pres. Obama. Two weeks ago, he said we should. Now that we have, he says we shouldn't have! Typical Republican--anti everything the President (or Democrats) does. All those potential Republican presidential candidates have "foot in mouth" disease. What a bunch of pathetic losers. And they continues to site Ronald Reagan as their conservative hero. He was as big a loser of any president we ever had.
Friends, if America elects anyone other than Obama in 2012, we'll be the laughing stock of the world. We probably deserve it. We ARE a pretty pathetic society. (Anti civil marriages, anti abortions, anti unions, anti health reform, et. al.)
I'm trying to stay positive.
