On Again

I received a shock yesterday morning when I read an email that said our Wilderness Volunteer Vermont service trip was back on again!
Evidently, the powers to be decided our volunteer group could be of assistance in cleaning up after Hurricane Irene. They would see that our dorm facilities would be operational. (We usually sleep in tents.)

I will be driving, starting off Thurs., Sept. 30. So this off and on again thing didn't affect planning. I'm sure some people with plane reservations cancelled--I know of at least one couple.

In the meantime, I'm having my truck checked over today--oil change, tires rotated ,etc. I need to work on my trip itinerary somewhat, but as usual, I'm semi free-wheeling it. Details aren't my thing.

I'm excited about going--sight seeing, working, eating, socializing. I need a change in routines.

Guess if you are off, you will not read this for a while, but cleaning up after Irene is a most worhty endeavor. Thank you for your assistance.

I'm here! Won't leave 'til the 29th--next Thurs. Cleaning up after Irene wasn't my original intention/reason for going, but I feel good about helping out in some small way. By the way, have you ever gotten out to Honeymoon or Caladesi Island? You're so close, and it's such an idyllic setting. Good for painting ideas.

Regarding your comment---I use to take off July 15-August 15 every year--get in my car with my AAA book (and gay guide) and drive around the USA--one summer the southeast, the next the southwest, then the northwest and then the northeast--up to Canada, down to Mexico--stopped where I wanted, when I wanted for as long or short as I wanted--saw all the crazy tourist traps in the USA, etc. They were GREAT trips! I love driving!

My apologies. That's what my "forced" trips are like. I say "forced" because otherwise, I'd just stay at home. Traveling is fun and enlightening.

yeah! Have fun! Enjoy the freedom!

Yes, it's the freedom to do what I want to do. I've got no strings to hold me down. It hasn't always been like that (with 4 kids).

Hooray! Great news! Please share what you'll be doing and where you'll be working. It is a great thing to do.

Thanks. It's really not something I think of "great to do". I'm more into the idea of something/some place new and different. It's an adventure, more than anything. Life to its fullest, and all that jazz.

"A change is as good as a rest."

There have been a few times we have almost had to spend the night in the car thanks to DH's liking for "free-wheeling it".

Oh, I've been there many times! And I HAVE spent the night in my vehicle. Think of the money I've saved!

I always keep a journal on my trips. The anticipation is usually greater than the actual results, however. We'll see.

I'd love to make the trip with you!!!!

Oh, you big fibber!! You would NEVER do something like this! But I have a smile on my face.

That sounds wonderful. The leaves should be turning too so it should be beautiful. Physical fitness and nature appreciation all in one. Your wood chopping muscles will come in handy.

Thanks. Hopefully, the devastation of the area won't affect the color of the trees--that is, the enjoyment of viewing the colors. Oh, you know what I mean!

I bet we would have more bloggers if our name was different. It's unique!
