Despite the ridiculous display of control and anger from my ex-husband and his wife over his family reunion drama, Mark and I managed to pull out a nice weekend with Jake and Sara.
My Goddaughter Katie (my ex-husbands brother's John and wife Beth's daughter) called me from my ex-husband reunion to tell me that my ex and his wife were bringing Jake and Sara back to my house. Upon hearing this, Mark and I left where we were to come home to be with the kids.
Of course the kids were upset about having to leave without even having a chance to see and visit with some of their extended family. Mark and I told the kids to get their swim suits on and we all went to play in the pool for a couple of hours. Then we came in at dark, made some popcorn and watched a movie together.
Sara spent much of Sunday morning just talking to me about the events of Saturday night at her Dad's family reunion. I'm sure it's difficult for her to comprehend some of what was happening and I think she was looking for extra assurance that she had done nothing wrong.
In the afternoon, my son Jake wanted to go to our city's festival, so my husband Mark and Jake rode their bikes over to the carnival. They both got ride wrist bands, rode the rides for hours and played some games. Jake came home with a stuffed cow he had won.
We all went in the pool again and had a wonderful dinner together.
Then Jake and Mark wanted to go back up to the festival. Well... I should clarify that Jake wanted to go back up to the festival. Mark was whooped tired, but he had told Jake earlier that they could go back again after dinner if Jake wanted too. My husband has the integrity of a saint. He would never go back on his word or a promise to my kids and so off the two of them went for the second round.
Sara's friend Amy came over to spend the night and they too decided to go to the festival. So I called Mark to tell him the girls were on their way over, so watch for them, and while I'm talking to him, Mark runs into our granddaughter Ashlee with her Dad at the festival. Jake won a stuffed cow for Sara and they all came home shortly after 8:00pm talking all at once about how much fun they had, who they saw and about running into the baby and her Dad. (My oldest daughter Lauren, Ashlee's Mom was working her afternoon shift at the hospital.)
(Ashlee was here for a little bit on Saturday. I bought her that sweet lil' cherries sundress and had to get a pic of her in it.)
Anyway... the kids ended up having a nice weekend (when they were with us at least) and they are with me until Wednesday at 5:00pm. We will cherish these last few precious days of summer vacation together.
