I lean back in my chair
And I remember
The chill of October
Has erased the memory of September.
The leaves turned and fell
Silently without a sound
And all too soon
The snow will cover the ground.
The colors were beautiful
Still they swirl in my head
Each so bright
The yellow, orange, and red.
But time moves on
Sometimes to fast
And what we have enjoyed today
Will soon be in our past.
But for the here and now
I will take time to enjoy
Jumping in a pile of leaves
As when I was a boy.
Burning leaves
Enjoying the smell
Another memory
I remember well.
Then I remember too
Homecoming night
Huddled around a bonfire
Holding each other tight.
Remembering a hug
First goodnight kiss
Those days you remember
And those things you miss.
To our youth and innocence
We bid adieu
Wondering where we were going
And what we were going to do.
But as the day
Slowly turns to night
Life in most cases
Has a way of making things right.
So here I sit
In hand is my coffee
Today is here and now
Tomorrow, will make it a memory.
