The sun sets
As it also rises
Cast upon the ground
Are shadows of various
shapes and sizes.
Between the darkness
And the light of day
Where do they go?
Where do they stay?
Hidden in places
Where few dare to walk
Discussing topics
For those willing to talk.
Silent partner
Never speaking out
Not feeling sadness
Or fear, or doubt.
Sometimes I believe
They are who we'd want to be
In the background
Not much to see.
But as the sun sets
And I look at the ground
The shadow that was me
Is no longer around.
