I am a writer
I write chapter and verse.
I have traveled forward
And also in reverse.
I have climbed mountains
Sometimes stopping halfway
With no will to go further
I soon call it a day.
I have stared at paper and pen
Looking for that inspiration
Fearing I have lost my thought
Writing out of desperation.
I stare at the lone candle
Glowing in the dark of night
Alone with my thoughts
Sometimes wrong, sometimes right.
When I write
I am in a state of mind
Looking at my finished work
Am I ahead or behind.
But they're times
When I am amazed
When I triumph over failure
I am undaunted, unfazed.
I feel as I am a king
Lord over what I survey
But then I fall back to earth
For that was yesterday.
I'm not the man I was
No more a sacrificial lamb
For the person here
Is the writer I am.
