The Political Landscape 2008
It is a cool, yet sunny afternoon here on the front porch in northern NY. Armed with hot coffee and my trusty lap top computer I'm ready to tackle another blog entry. This election has had it's share of twists and turns, it's been as friendly as a church social at times and as nasty as bogo sale at a "Krispy Kreme" store. Right now it's coming down to crunch time, and the McCain-Palin ticket is taking on more water then the Titanic. Who'd thought what a difference a month can make?? thats when the two parties were just about neck and neck in the polls, now the Obama-Biden ticket now have an 11 point lead(of course it depends on which poll you read). But whatever poll you choose to put your faith in one thing remains clear, Obama-Biden still is the party to beat in November. Even as a Republican of many years I will not vote for the "republican" just for the sake of the party line, I have to feel that an individual is worthy of my vote. I know to some that seems a little melodramatic but I do not take my right to vote lightly, If I am to vote for someone then I believe in my heart they are the person(s)for the job. At one time I felt that way about President Bush, I truly believed in his message and thought he was the person for the job..and apparently I was not the only person in this country that embraced that mindset. He(President Bush) jumped upon his soapbox and shook his fist in the air, declared that our enemy was laying in wait for us in the middle east. And what happened was not completely unexpected..at least not by me, as we were faced by an enemy who have been schooled in the art of warfare since before the time of Christ. Now we are engaged in a quagmire of loss, not only of time and money but more importantly that of human life. We have asked our soldiers to put themselves in harms way, to fight a battle where the only objective seems to be is survival..at least another day. But our brave troops, like us Americans here at home have grown weary..and I can see their point. You can see the weariness written on their faces, their frustration can be heard in their voice. Their message is clear, "we are tired and we want to come home". It's hard to read a politician sometimes, I believe it's like being a cross between a man of God and a used car salesman. You are trying to restore someones faith in the system, but yet you will say whatever you need to to make a sale. It's like a balancing act on a picket fence, one wrong move and..well you get the point. Who ever gets elected President I wish them luck, for they are embarking on a journey of biblical proportions for their are many question marks and not a whole lot of answers to.
