Ticks and Puking

Last night R's "boss" had to come over to try to hook up their work computer since the "boss" doesn't have internet at his house that will work with this computer. Dude came over at about 9:30pm. I was not pleased, but I hid it well I think. The company R works for is about 20 people big, and R is friends with the owners so it makes some sense...

While R and "boss" were setting this up I was on the couch petting my Kraymer. It was then I felt something strange. I investigated. Low and behold a tick was right above his ear. ACK! I said "R - I need you to come here right now!" He of course responded and confirmed my fear - it was a tick. R seems to have a rational head about him - I was panicked and not happy but he said for me to get some tweezers and that he would get some matches. Ok! So I did. Together (mostly R) we got the filthy tick off my bubba. I put it in a plastic bag in case I want to take it to the vet to have them check it out, which I think I might do tonight. Gross!!! It is kinda funny though how much of a freak I am about it - the tick was in a small ziplock bag, I taped that bag shut and then put it in a freezer bag as well. I didn't want that thing getting out. haha

But anyways. Krayms didn't puke this morning which is a wonderful thing. I just don't know what to think! Although for my own piece of mind I think I might just take the poor dog in to the vet again... My poor Bubba and my poor wallet!!!

Dogs are kinda expensive hey? hehe But they are oh so worth every penny!!!

HAPPY TUESDAY!

You know that Rex got Rocky Mountain Spotted fever and it is tough to cure. I will have to continue to give him tracycline all summer. fever and sluggishness are the signs. l0l is normal dog temperature. His previntic collar along with frontline helps keep them off him but we still have to check every day. Hope Kraymer doesn't have to face that.

If "R"'s boss came over to MY house at 9:30 p.m., he would have found me in bed! Takes some big, brass ones to go visiting at that hour, if you ask me!
As far as ticks are concerned, I wish I had a dime for every tick I've picked off myself and my animals in the last five years! Nothing to get very concerned about. Just watch the old boy. If he starts getting stiff-jointed or starts acting sluggish, I'd get him checked out.
MY dog, on the other hand, tried to make friends with a skunk last night! Got hit right smack in the eyes and mouth! TONS OF STINKY FUN at 9 p.m.!!!!

If it was a baby tick there may be a mama tick around.Ticks can live several years without feasting on blood.Don't ever squish a tick, this releases eggs into the air.Put it in alcohol, which will kill it.After it dies,it is safe to flush down the toilet.Ticks usually go near the dogs ears and between the toes or pads of the dogs feet. They really like the toes,so please check Kraymers tooties.

Make sure you check again real good...usually there's always more then just one and definitely check for Lyme disease

I hope he is okay! Even if you go broke (ugh!), at least it'll be reassuring to know what is/isn't wrong. They totally are worth every penny.

Is it the tick that made Kramer sick. Tick's carry Lyme's Disease and the first symptoms are flu like. Please look into Kristy, k?

Just found this:
Herbal Tick Repellent for Dogs: the essential oil that is recommended for repelling ticks is Rose Geranium, put a few drops—no more!—on your dog's collar. The second best essential oil for repelling ticks is American Pennyroyal (also called tickweed). Third is Palmerosa which is cheaper and usually easier to find.

Caution: do not use these essential oils around people or animals that are pregnant or around cats.

Garlic is another natural tick repellent (see Draco's comment). But again do NOT feed garlic to cats. A garlic pill a day will keep the ticks away.
-------------------

It's up to you if you want to try these alternatives. Good Luck with the Bubba!

Best way to get rid of ticks is to use olive oil before removal. That way the tick doesn't puke into the blood stream and cause further illness. We give our dogs canine Advantix for fleas and ticks. Also feed them garlic mixed with peanut butter. Something we heard works.

Do you not use Frontline Plus for this.
The baby ticks are the worst one.

Last night the baby ticks held a race on my forehead. When I awakened, they hid in my hair. I drowned the little buggers with shampoo. It made me feel good all day.

could it be the heat bothering kraymer? I just don't know what it could be but glad he didn't puke last night! I hate ticks! they are horrible little bugs!

Do those flea & tick collars or the stuff you put behind their necks work against ticks?
Yeah dogs (and cats) are great. But they can be expensive if something goes wrong. I've been very lucky thus far. Rigby's natural brother, Farley has been having urinary track infections and kidney problems. And he's only two and a half.
Hope Kraymer-head is okay. I was wondering if you have been packing and the sight of the suitcases has him upset?

Ticks are bad this year, esp around here. You have to watch really close just walking in the yard or you'll have several crawling on you. My poor Lucy has such long hair that when she comes in I have to really look to make sure I get them off of her. It's awful this time of year for them.
