I Think I AM Improving?

I was looking at a large spider outside the bathroom window yesterday, wondering if I should ask Ron to try to bat it down... then I thought, nah, he's outside... as long as he stays there we are good. Then I looked the other way and saw a bat hanging there. A bat. I actually admired this creature and wondered why it was so out in the open... we have shutters that they have lived behind in the past, but this one was just hanging on the brick between the window and the shutter. I took a pic that I will share, and I apologize in advance that it looks like I took a picture of the window screen. If you look at the second brick though you can kinda see him, a little bit. Anyways Ron was astounded when I kinda yelled at him for spraying for hornets while our bat friend was sleeping there. He was like - what? You don't want it dead? For whatever reason I think it's cute. Now if it was in the HOUSE, that would be different. I wouldn't wish it dead but I wouldn't think it was cute either. haha

Anyways, here is the pic:

Again, no idea why I think it's cute but I do!

Here is a pic of Miss Skylar in a cute outfit her Grandma (my mother in law) got for her... Skylar is also walking a little bit now. She takes a few steps before landing on her bum! It's cute. We keep asking her if she is excited to meet her brother in September but she won't answer us. haha ok the dogs just barked and woke up the baby girl so I will cut this short...

Here is the little lady:

Have a great day everyone!

Oh my gosh, I have had a lot of creatures but I don't think I have had any bats.Like you I think as long as they are outside and not in my house they are ok. Spiders are a different matter. I am terrified of spiders….it goes back to my childhood when I was about 4. You would think in 70 years I would have conquered that fear. The only good spider is a dead one.

I have come a long way with spider tolerance. We have the big fuzzy quarter sized spiders near us and they FREAK me right out. But that has made the smaller ones more tolerable. Does that make sense?

Maybe the bat eats the spider?

That would be wonderful! Not so far tho.

Bats are good guys: the only downside being that they can contract rabies. I read your garden comments this morning on my droid. I can reply later now that I'm on the 'puter. Not sure why you say you can't make compost. Organic scraps, grass clippings, leaves, coffee grounds,... You can even do what Jeri does and just have a few plants. If you use pots, tho, don't "bake" them in the afternoon sun. Dark pots get particularly hot and may produce unfortunate results even if they are watered regularly.

As for the compost, Ron made a chicken wire circular "bin" that we filled with grass clippings, leaves, and food scraps (fruit, veggies, egg shells, coffee filters and grounds) but nothing happened. We are just not talented in the growing world...

That's so exciting about the new member to your family. September is really SOON, but easy for me to say - you're the one who has to make it through the hot summer months. Skylar probably doesn't know what 'little brother' means until she sees him. Around here people put out bat houses to encourage them because they eat mosquitoes and other bugs, and maybe they won't get into where we don't want them if they have a home of their own.

We are Looking into getting or building a bat house. I kinda like them and I know they are good to have around.... Just not too close

What progress you have made as a country girl!! Skylar will probably hate
her brother for a little while until she gets used to sharing Mom and Dad.
She is so precious that I long to hold her.
