Money Honey

I was just reading an email about Repub's filibustering the bill to counteract the Hobby Lobby disaster. I am not surprised by this, I mean it's annoying, but it's expected. I am starting to believe our government pretty much blows....

BUT

In this email the senator was begging for $5. I have received so many emails asking me for a contribution to politics. I realize money talks, but geebus NO. I am not going to contribute when I think money is part of the problem. But that leaves me wondering if that is the correct decision... maybe we have to PAY for change? Sigh

In other news

Skylar is doing well, walking like a drunken sailor all about the joint. Baby boy is very active in my tummy which I love.

I just made peanut butter banana oatmeal chocolate cookies. Those were the 4 ingredients. Yum!

We are hopefully starting our renovation soon. It won't be done by the time baby boy comes as I had hoped but it should be close. We will be fine.

We joined a CSA and I have no idea what to do with the beets I keep getting.

I just ordered a bunch of ingredients (well, about 5 ingredients and a bunch of supplies) to start making my own chapstick, diaper cream, vaseline and healing salve. I hope it's not a major pain in the bottom. I am excited though because I will know exactly what is in it! Just like my soap.

Ok, random enough for ya? Ha

Happy Wednesday peeps.

I saw a simple recipe for healing salve on PaleoMama, what kind of ingredients are you using? I have some beeswax I was going to use in solid perfume, but you just make tiny amounts of that, so I'll have a lot left.

I used beeswax (HATE the smell tho so I will switch to the vegan version), vegetable glycerin, shea butter, coconut oil and .... I think that might be it?

Have you seen that Emory University study where they give MRIs to dogs in order to study their brain activity? They cover their eyes and ears and train them to sit still for 20 minutes with the help of a thing to hold their head still.

No, I hadn't heard of that...

No matter how tired you get, just remember that one day they'll be all grown up and leave. So, enjoy them while you can.

I hear that quite a bit and I believe it to be true, but man bedtime is a good time as well.

Would love to see some videos of Miss Skylar walking around. Her pictures always make me smile. (gapeach=nancycasto on fb)

Ran into a Skylar the other day. This one is 15 so I guess it's a younger-generation name. The only other one I knew of was on fb, but that one is a boy.
As for beets: mix equal parts of butter and flour in a saucepan until it begins to brown, then add some chopped onion. Then sliced beets, and since the beets aren't canned, you'll have to figure out what to use as a bit of liquid. When it boils, it will thicken. Then add a splash of red vinegar and a bit of sugar (if desired) to taste. I could eat it every night.
Weren't you guys thinking of moving to a different house?
comment by jjoohhnn on July 16, 2014 4:58 PM ()
You are all so wonderful for all the beet recipes!!! Thank you!
And we are still thinking of moving, adding two bedrooms and a full bath to the main level (where the master bedroom is) will make the house more appealing and hopefully help it sell! Although we may decide to stay for a bit, and we will be more set up to stay.

We love hearing from you. Sexy Sadie has a wonderful recipe there, I have
only eaten beets that are pickled. Love that the baby is active and that
Skylar is up and exploring. It will be hard when you have two up and
going. My Sara could tell you all about it.

Love it all. Random is a great way to catch us up on your life events.

As for the beets, roast them. Preheat Oven 350 degrees, wash off the beets (don't peel) and cut off the tops and bottom root. Rub coconut oil over them (olive oil and/or sprays will work too) sprinkle with a little salt. Wrap them in foil and cook for approx 50 min. Take out of oven and allow to cool. You will be able to slide the skin right off of them. Eat hot or cold.

One of my favorite ways to eat roasted beets: Tear kale into small bites. Mix lemon juice, olive oil and salt (pepper to taste) and drizzle onto the kale. Massage the dressing into the leaves. Add beets and goat cheese for a delicious and nutritious salad.
