The Kraymer Update

I took Kraymer to the vet yesterday, R came with us as well which I thought was sweet. :0)

The vet asked how Kraymer was doing, I said he was acting fine but that his lump was still present, although it seemed to have shrunk a little bit.

The vet felt around and said it went down about 1/3 in size, but that she wanted to go in and get it to see what it was (aka surgery).

I asked if he would miss a lymph node, she assured me that dogs have plenty more and not to worry about one being gone.

I had talked to SB about this before hand too, and she had recommended waiting it out with antibiotics a little longer. She is thinking that surgery is invasive and nothing to rush into. I am glad I talked to her because she did influence my decision.

I most likely would have gone with the vet's recommendation with the surgery right away, alas we decided that we are going to try antibiotics for another week to see if it makes a difference. I am to call the vet on Monday with a report and we'll go from there.

The vet said that the lump was firm (which I didn't like, fatty tissue is gel like and NOT firm) but that it's not systemic which was a good sign. I asked if there was anything else she could tell by feeling it but she couldn't.

Alas, one more week... then my baby boy might be going in for surgery! I think that if it's not down by Friday I might call the vet and schedule the surgery though. I want to know what this business is, ya know??? If it IS cancer I want it out! STAT!

I've been reading things online ... from what I can tell, best bet is that is nothing horrible. I asked the husband about it and he said, "Bruce has one of those on his left shoulder... it's nothing." Doesn't help a worrying Mom I know, but I bet it's nothing. Poor Kraymer boy~

I did not ask my friend what the chances were of the Kraymer's growth being malignant. However, he DID tell me that, if the growth was not systemic, it can be completely eradicated, even if it is cancerous. Hope that helps, sweetie!

My prayers are with you kid! Nothing is more nerve-wracking than this kind of waiting.
Non-systemic is a really, REALLY good thing. It means that, if it IS cancer (A very long-shot though) that it has not spread. So, if surgery is required, they will get it all in one fell swoop. (I called a vet friend of mine and asked him.)
Also, mammals have hundreds of lymph nodes. One less won't make any difference whatsoever.
Please, please, PLEASE keep us posted on the good boy's progress!

Since it has shrunk some, if it were my lucy dog, I would want them to take it out while at that stage. Surgery, while it is smaller is going to be easier on your pet.... any way you look at it. Getting it out now can only be a good thing.

I'm praying for Kraymer, Kristy. I don't want him to have to go through that if he can help it!

Do you use a Holistic Vet? They're less likely to do unnecessary things unless they have to, they also don't over vaccinate pets. I'm certainly not a vet, but surgery cost money and may not have to be done. If you don't have a Holistic Vet Kristy, I highly recommend a good one. Google for the ones in your area. We have two dogs and it's made a huge difference in their health...best of luck

Thing that the smart thing is surgery. For me would had this
done a long time ago.So that they can take a biospy of this.
They won't know till the get the lump out and test it.
Good choice.Do not like the idea the the lump is hard .

I really hope that things go well and that the lump is benign.
