Dog Fight!

I woke up this morning, much like every morning, not wanting to leave the warmth and comfort of my bed and my Kraymer on the pillow next to me... Alas I decided I had best, so I got up! As Kraymer and I started our morning ritual of a walk, I waved to a neighborhood dog and his owner, who waved back and said hi. Kraymer and Oliver (her dog) are not friends, but we haven't ever had an issue before of keeping them apart. Well, all of a sudden there is a large chocolate lab racing towards us, not looking all that friendly. I panicked like a fool and had a tight grip on Kraymer as this dog came at us full force (the owner lost her grip on him - he was leashed) All of a sudden I found myself jumping between the two and all their teeth. I was freaking out. Then I fell over with the dogs trying to get to each other on top of me. Yikes. What seemed like forever after, the owner got control of Oliver, and asked if we were ok and apologized profusely. Luckily Kraymer and I seemed to be unscathed, so off we went telling her not to worry about it. She gave me her condo number in case anything came up.

After we were away from the scene of the madness I checked my bubba over and he did appear to be just fine, a few wet marks on his back from spit, but no blood or bite marks I could see or anything so all was well. Phew! On our walk we saw another chocolate lab and Kraymer just FREAKED OUT. I totally understood this though so I wasn't too alarmed and just tried to keep Kraymer going in a different direction.

When we got back I saw the owner coming out of my condo building so we started talking again. She apologized yet again and said she left me a note with her contact info. I assured her that if the situation were reversed I would be freaking out too, but not to worry that and that we were fine, and I thanked her for her concern and her note. I smiled at her and said once again - "Don't worry about it! Have a good day, ok?" She smiled back and said just keep me posted if anything comes up. It's good to have nice neighbors!

Now for my own stupidity though... I bought a product called Direct Stop awhile ago which is supposed to be used for exactly the situation I was in this morning (it's like pepper spray for dogs - stuns them into stopping what they are doing). Where was it? In my pocket. Had I been THINKING this might not have happened at all. But in my own defense it was first thing this morning and there was a large chocolate lab angrily racing towards us from a few yards away...

So that was my morning. Oh, I forgot to mention that this all happened outside R's window. When he woke up I was like hey did you hear a dog fight outside your window this morning? He was like yeah, Tucker was freaking out! I was like well that was Kraymer and I. R said he figured since Tucker was spazzing as much as he was... Interesting!!!

Let's hope the day improves! :0)

Wow not a great way to start the day...glad that you and Kraymer are ok. I totally understand forgetting about having the spray. First thing in the morning your not expecting getting attacked.

Dog fights are frightening. There is so much frenetic activity, and so many deafening sounds! I've been involved with breaking up several in my life, and each time, I end up shaking because of the intensity and energy involved.
It is small wonder you forgot about the Direct Stop. I would have too. You've got nothing about which to feel stupid. You protected your beloved Kraymer. You weren't a coward. You got right into the middle of it without even thinking about your own safety in order to save your friend from harm.
Nothing stupid there. That's admirable. I'm proud of you.

Wow, Kristy, it's a wonder you didn't get bitten. Thank heavens you didn't. I'm glad Kraymer is okay.

You bring up an interesting point when it comes to what we *think* we would do in an emergency, whether it's a weapon, pepper spray or a fire or whatever. Without some sort of practice for emergencies, most of us are hopelessly unprepared. But you and Kraymer came through it OK, and that's what counts (this time).
