Since I've moved into the "trailer park" (which most of the time I love by the way) I've encountered a sickening amount of domestic violence. It makes my nerves a wreck and makes me not want to let the kids out of my sight (which is where they were tonight-playing with the new badmitten set I bought).
Last month my across the road neighbor was arrested after multiple reports of him abusing both the mother and the teenage daughter. It used to be a daily thing for me to hear him yelling obscenities and threats at both girls. One day the dog attacked him, biting skin off the man's face (smart dog). Finally after the incident where multiple neighbors called the police as they (we) heard him literally threatening her life, he left the park for good. Later we find that he actually did have a knife to her throat.
Today I come home from school, get out of my car and immediately I hear a man yelling "You f'n c*** etc...." It was coming from two streets over, right across from the manager's mobile home (she never even came out through all of this even though her car was there). I was just heading back to my home when I heard someone get in a car and it peel off. Then I hear brakes squealing and someone screaming in pain. Somehow she actually ran this guy down with her car!!! He was on the ground in pain, but no blood that I could see. I'm thinking "What is wrong with people???" Neighbors started gathering and one ran over to the guy. It seemed like forever before the ambulances and police started coming. I have no idea if anyone got arrested, but I hope so. I'd also like them evicted from the park.
I pray for these people and especially for their children. I'm thankful that I have never been a victim of domestic violence. I pray that I will always have enough love for myself to know that no person should ever treat me like that.
Domestic violence of any kind should never be tolerated. It is dangerous, of course, which is always the primary concern, but it can do so much more damage in so many ways. The victim may get it first-hand, but the rippling effect reaches far more people and lives, making everybody a victim.
