More Work

Whose crazy idea was it for me to work at walmart??? That place is a madhouse! LOL I worked noon till nine yesterday. From about 5 until I left we had long lines. I am still hurting today. I am going to give it a chance and see if it improves. Not sure if I will stay at this job. I have met some cool people. Thats one of the benefits of being a smoker. lol They have an outside area for us to smoke and thats where I meet different people.
When I got off last night, my whole body hurt. And then I had to walk way out to my car. Well, one of my friends from tae kwon do was waiting for me at the entrance. Just to walk me to my car. That made me feel alot better. Cuz there was no way I could have fended off an attacker! lol
I have learned one thing. From now on when I shop, I will organize my stuff according to what it is, cold stuff, boxes, etc. I love the people who organize their items!
today I work 4 until midnight. I wish they would give me shorter hours! 8 hours is really grueling! It is an easy job mentally but physically very demanding! All the cashiers are very friendly and nice to me so far. There is one guy who is just a total joker. He had me laughing so hard. He would constantly yell over, MARY!!!! how are you doing!
In other news.... Hubby and kota are over at our new house installing a water heater for our house. I think this is last thing that needed to be done. I will be closer to work also.
Going to try and catch up with all of you now.

Hang in there girl - retail is HARD! Make sure you are wearing decent shoes, and yes, I have totally noticed the smoking phenomenon, although the numbers have been dwindling the older I get...

You would like to wait on me. I am an organizer. Funny, but I find I still organize by taxable and non-taxable items. Living in California for 31 years got me in that mindset. Oregon doesn't have a sales tax, so it isn't necessary, but I still find I follow my old routine. I do organize by cans, vegies, meat, dairy, cold, boxes, etc. Geez, I didn't realize how very organized or "obsessive" I am.

I'm glad you made good friends in work, thats always a help. I can't wait to see pics of your new home. Sounds like hubby has everything under controll. When's the house warming party?

That's right you have worked retail before. They should have already put you on your own register. Oh well, maybe they will when you go back after you are off. Maybe, they didn't want to last night because it was so busy.

So good to hear from you. I knew that all the work was taking up your time and relaxation was competely necessary after the grueling day. I hear you about organizing your items at the check out. I always do that, but it is simply my mania for being organized!

Lots of changes in your life and lots to adjust to, that is for sure! It is no wonder you are hurting and aching all over. Just keep hanging in there, Mary!! I'm rooting for ya!!

Sounds like you are doing great! I totally understand the long full time hours, which is why I decided to stay at part time hours for now. It's easy mentally, but like you said, the physical part of it can be very challenging! When will you get to move into your new house?

It is hard work and yes Wal-Mart is a madhouse especially on the weekends. You will be tired and hurt in places you didn't know you had. I remember that well! I think all of retail do the same thing. They put you with a trainer and tell you to take notes, and throw you out there. When I worked at the craft store (similar to Michael's) I trained with someone for about an hour and then was put on my own the first day! YIKES!! But, I had previous training from working at Wal-Mart and Hallmark when we lived in New Mexico. Just wait until Christmas time rolls around!! Oh yeah! But, one thing about it you will lose wt. and tone up more especially if they put you out on the floor because you will be walking constantly through out your shift. I would much rather get to walk around some or did then. When you are on the floor you are usually pricing, stocking, and helping customers find something. Hang in there!

Is it true that men's baskets are better organized than women's??

When I worked in retailing - started on the floor and worked up to managaement - I bought a new pair of shoes every day, looking for a comfortable pair. I am one of those who doesn't like to wear "clunky" shoes, so I just learned to bear it. Want to buy some shoes?

glad the new house is coming along. yeah, wally world can be a trip...I can only imagine what it must be like on the other side of the counter. I make an effort to be nice to the checkout people. I figure they have enough a--holes to deal with without me adding to the mix. sorry I havn't been around lately. Was out campaigning and spying on the Jackasses at their convention. Now I gotta do the same with the Pacyderms. Try to get some much needed rest, my friend.
