Just a Short One

Well I had lab work done a few weeks ago. I have been borderline diabetic for years and my doctor has been keeping an eye on it. She wanted me to have the A1c test which I guess shows your sugar levels for the last 3 months. Just got the call from the doctor's office, I am type 2 diabetic. I have an appointment with my doctor on monday to discuss treatment. UGH! I know I am not going to like what she tells me I have to eliminate. I have already done some research on it.

In a way, I am relieved. It explains alot of my health concerns. And I know I can get this under control. My mom is a diabetic and I was when I was pregnant. So now I am concerned for my son Dakota. When I find out what I need to be eating, then the whole family will be eating healthier and now I have an excuse to get Dakota and hubby to walk with me! Or maybe get some roller blades!

Roller blades sound like something the whole family could get into...get exercise and have fun at the same time.

Don't be defeated, Mary. Look at this as an opportunity to make some healthy changes and embrace it. You can do it!

it will just take some getting used to. I am looking forward to being more healthy and feeling better.

My diabetic sister eats right and exercises to fend off the disease without insulin. It's no fun, but necessary. Good luck!

Yes, activity helps resolve so many health issues- so why can't I get a move on?

I know what you mean! it's that whole getting started thing!

It's not the best time of year to start a walking program but that's just what I did too. Good luck with yours. With all this snow I'm seriously considering clearing my junk off the treadmill.

I would love to get that bowflex tread climber but it's like $2000! i keep looking for cheap treadmills. it hasn't been too cold here, not a normal winter for us.

I am sure you will do fine. Depending how high your sugar is, they can likely treat it with oral medications.

I am not looking forward to all the changes I will have to make. but if it means I will be healthier, than I am all for it!

Best wishes for success, Mary. That must be some test that can look back several years - as if our body is a computer recording every dietary transgression.

I'm not sure how that test works but it's supposed to give them an idea of blood sugar levels over the last 3 months. I am going to ask her how it does that!

Good girl and do make a list for the doctor.

I am glad you are already researching this... I think if you change your diet you might be able to be medication free!

I think so too Kristy, and dropping some weight will surely help. I have gained alot. I also think I am perimenopausal so it's kind of a double whammy! lol but with me eating better and walking, it will help Dakota too! trying to be positive but I am going to need some support during this.
