Frankenstorm!

All the doomsayers are calling this coming storm, unprecedented! It's a category one hurricane, not too bad. But meeting with two other storms once it gets here. And... they are saying it will make landfall in my little state! I am not in full freak out mode just yet. Tomorrow we will bringing things inside, tying things down, filling the car with gas and making that dreaded trip for groceries. I just don't want to lose power. Anything else I can get through. Do I think it's going to be as bad as the media is portraying it? No. They do this every single time and we usually get some rain and wind and that's it. But it's like the boy who cried wolf. One of these times we will get slammed by a storm.
We have flashlights and candles. I have a couple good books to read. I guess the problem is going to be that it most likely stall right over top of us for a few days. Lots of rain. It's supposed to start raining sunday with the worse of the storm happening monday and tuesday.
I just need to get through grocery shopping tomorrow and then I can just sit and wait. We did go to walmart tonight, not for storm supplies. And the lines were ridiculous! I am hoping our grocery store has a few more people working the check out lines than walmart. I don't grocery shop at walmart.
I will keep you all posted as things develop. At this time we have me, hubby and Dakota. Also stepson, his wife and two year old daughter are living with us. Let's hope I don't kill someone if we are stuck in the house for days!

my thoughts are with you --batten down the hatches and keep safe

we are all battened down. unfortunately the husband had to go to work, he is considered emergency personnel.

As one who has been through many storms, expect the best but be prepared for the worst. Candles flashlights food hat can be eaten without cooking charcoal if you have to have breakfast on the grill, which we did during one hurricane. It was delicious by the way. Anyway, be ready and have batteries for your radio. It's all good! I've lived through three in one year. You'll make it.

thanks deb! we will be prepared that's for sure. I have things to do once the storm hits, working on crocheting a blanket for my grandgirl, I bought a couple of good books last night and there is always a nap if it isn't too noisy! now i am just worried how will i make coffee if the power goes out??

I hear ya... I wish they could find a happy medium, it seems like it's full blown PANIC NOW news or they don't tell us anything and it's a big storm (like the delrecho or however you spell that). Stay safe! Oh, have you been hearing Delmarva on the weather news? Does that mean Delaware, Maryland and Virginia? That's the best I could come up with...
comment by kristilyn3 on Oct 27, 2012 7:37 AM ()
yup, that's delmarva! I think this is the first time we are even acknowledged on the weather channel. it seems everything is in place for this be devastating, full moon will provide higher tides, the hurricane meeting up with a winter storm. my head is already spinning!

Let's also hope that there are still things on the shelves at the grocery store! We used to have these kinds of storm warnings on the Oregon coast and the rush of people buying up supplies would leave our local grocery store empty. Hope you can weather it well. Good luck!
comment by maggiemae on Oct 27, 2012 7:29 AM ()
that is what I am dreading, not finding supplies. walmart was already out of flashlights and alot of batteries. but hubby has big rechargeable flashlights. i really wanted a couple of those battery operated lanterns but that is wishful thinking at this point.

The forcasters here in central NY are saying we could get some heavy wind gusts and a lot of rain...but thank goodness no snow!! Keep safe and be prepared, it's better to be forewarned then forearmed.
comment by redwolftimes on Oct 27, 2012 6:52 AM ()
i was reading that some places could get a foot or two of snow! this is definitely a strange mix of a storm. I would actually prefer the snow than rain and wind! just hope we don't get cabin fever since we will be stuck in the house for 4 or 5 days!

The storm has broken down some and it is getting weaker.Mostly coastal and rain and wind inland.Still have another day to see where is this going.Take care.
comment by fredo on Oct 27, 2012 5:25 AM ()
you take care too fredo, this could be a messy storm. I am planning on tackling organizing the house better. with me working now the housework has been the bare minimum.

Just be as ready to leave if you have to and I know you will do fine.
comment by elderjane on Oct 27, 2012 5:21 AM ()
we are not near the coast here, we are further inland. I think we will be safe here and just ride it out. hubby is very good at calming me down. I tend to freak out at the mere mention of a hurricane. but if a blizzard is predicted, I am all excited.

I have a feelig that you are right. The weather folks here in Southern New England are doing the same thing. It does seem like it is going to be more of a mild storm, but it also seems like it is going to stick around. There seems to be a lot of concern about flooding here.

with as much rain as they are forecasting, it is going to be bad for us. I think we are relatively safe where we are. we have a nice strong house. I am not looking forward to being confined to the house for 4 or 5 days.

We had a lot of wind--a lot of gusts--heavy rains on and off but not too many--did have a lot of sand blown on to A1A--the beach road--it has left us now.
Yes the media plays it up but better to be safe than sorry--so be ready!
comment by greatmartin on Oct 26, 2012 7:50 PM ()
we will be ready Martin, I am not taking this lightly. I dread hitting the grocery store today but it's got to be done. we are also making it into an adventure for Dakota to keep his fears at bay.

I was thinking about you when I looked at that storm track. Good luck for no power outages, or if you get them, just a few minutes.
comment by kitchentales on Oct 26, 2012 7:13 PM ()
my family in Pennsylvania could get a foot of snow! we will be prepared for the worse and hope for the best.
