Sandy Update

we are beginning to see signs of Sandy. It's been raining since yesterday and of course the wind is picking up. We are all stocked up and ready to ride it out. My work has been cancelled for today and tomorrow. Hubby however had to go to work, essential personnel. He works for a propane company. I just called him and they have him doing regular work like there isn't a hurricane looming over us! One of his jobs is even down at the coastal area. Hubby doesn't deliver propane, he is a service technician. I hate that during every major storm he has to be out in it while I sit at home worrying about his safety.
I had to turn the heat on this morning, its quite chilly! They are saying we will probably lose power. ugh! It's not too cold outside, temp says 50. I'm just running the heat to get the chill out of the house for now.
I might take pictures later, from the safety of my back room! LOL We don't have any trees near our house so that isn't a concern at least.
Dakota's kitten, lucky cat, is not venturing too far from his boy. Whenever dakota moves, the cat goes with him. It is so cute! If we lose power I will have to come up with ways to entertain the kiddo's. Maybe a game of hide and seek! We have no board games! I bought some glow sticks for Dakota and Bella to play with during the storm.
At this point, my nerves are fine. We are prepared, we are safe. If we lose power I might post an update to facebook just to let people know we are ok.
everone be safe!

"If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear". We hear that scripture a lot in our church. It does give a person peace of mind. I'm sorry your hubby has to be out in it.

My hubby is sitting next to me looking out the window at all the wind and rain and leaves blowing around madly. I am SO SORRY that your hubby is out and about in this non sense! DOES NOT SEEM FAIR! Yes we will lose power and heat is important but it's not like it's the dead of winter. I hope the cut his day short and he's home safe and sound before you know it.

Your poor husband. We don't want to see any Perfect Storm movies starring a propane technician out trying to do his job in that weather. Just for fun, ask him if he wants George Clooney to play his role.

If you lose power, are you going to be able to get online to post to Facebook? I googled about what happens to cell phones in a power outage. The towers are required to have 2 - 4 hours of battery back up. Back in 2008, the FCC wanted to require 8 hours backup power, but Dubya Bush tabled it, saying it needed more study (I guess it was going to take money of the pockets of Republicans). In critical service areas, the cell towers have standby generators that provide power, powered by natural gas, propane, or diesel. The best phone to have during an extended power outage is an old-fashioned landline phone (not a cordless that has to have electricity to ring) that plugs into the wall. You can't get online, but at least people can call you, and you can call out.

well i will try to post to facebook once we lose power and see what happens. i think hubby would approve of george clooney playing him in the movie. lets hope it doesn't come to that!

Hang in there, kid. You'll be fine. Sounds like you have prepared well.

You fortunate that you don't have trees too close to the house. They are nice, but then comes this and there's nothing I can do but hope for the best. Anyway, you'll get hit harder than we will. I'm on the northern fringe of the track. Areas 50 miles north of me won't even get wet. Anyway, best luck to us all.. hopefully everyone has made all possible preparations.

I try not to watch the local news due to the dumb people driving to the beach to see the big waves! come on people, have some common sense! No one is supposed to be on the roads and yet there are still cars going by. if you haven't prepared by now, it's too late. even walmart is closed!

You are in my thoughts and I am wishing that the power stays on. We worry
about our friends who are in harms way.

thanks jeri! we are as prepared as we can be. we have cases of bottled water, canned goods, lots of junk food too! the bathtub is filled with water so we can still flush the toilet in case of power loss. I just wish hubby could come home! He has endured blizzards, ice storms and hurricanes for his job.

Thinking of you and wishing you well, Mary! Stay safe!
