We Bought a Zoo?

Have you seen that movie? I love it! It seems we are slowly building a zoo in our home. First came the two turtles. Then in October we got a gray tiger striped kitten, mr. lucky cat! Now for our newest addition. I had taken Dakota to his weekly counseling session last tuesday. Towards the end of the session his psychologist calls me in to the room. Dakota says something about getting a chinchilla. I tell him, I would love to get you one but they are very expensive. Dr. Lauren says, what if it was free? Seems her niece is preparing to go away to college and does not have time for her chinchilla. So yesterday we picked him up. I think they said he is 7 years old, they can live pretty long! He came with his cage, bedding, food, snacks treats and any other accessory needed. Dakota is in heaven! He keeps him in his room and will shut the door so he can let the little guy run around. Did you know they are marsupials? Like the kangaroo! He is adorable, very friendly. I have a feeling his counselor has taken a special liking to my little guy.

The college I work for shuts down during Christmas. So I am on holiday until January 2nd! I love that about my job! I get to hang out with Dakota and play with any toys he gets for Christmas.

Mr. Lucky Cat has undecorated our tree. He especially likes climbing inside the tree. but we must have a tree! Christmas eve I will lock him in my bedroom to prevent him from unwrapping presents!

Me and hubby ventured to the mall yesterday to do some shopping. It was so packed. We got a bite to eat and went to the first store on our list. the checkout line was out the door! So we turned around and left the mall. Who can shop like that! And the rudeness!
We went over to petsmart to look for a book on chinchilla's. We must have looked rather lost because two young people came bouncing over to help us. I asked if they had a book on chinchilla's and off they bounced to show us where! We also picked up treats for chilly the chinchilla and mr. lucky cat. Although Mr. Lucky Cat has been bad, he will still get christmas presents. After all, he is still a kitten!
I think that will be the extent of our zoo. And once spring comes, the turtles will be released to a nearby pond to live out there days.

I'll need to find that movie..it sounds good. Chinchilla's make awesome pets and you're right about dust bathes - they really do love them and it's quite hilarious watching them!

it is hilarious to watch him take his dust bath! and his favorite snack is raisins. He hears me rattle the baggie I keep them in and he starts hopping around in his cage.
we bought a zoo is a great movie, but I love matt damon in anything.

I did a lot of my shopping online this year and it's fabulous. many places will give you free shipping if you order over a certain dollar amount. we only have one Wally World here in Cow Snot and it was hellish. Bet yer glad yer not working there anymore.

i am so thankful to be out of that hell hole! that place is just ridiculous. I did some online shopping but we also did shopping at walmart. I think I will start shopping in january for next Christmas! (something I say every year and somehow never do)

How nice the Chilly deal worked out so well. I love that bounce description - we saw it in action when we went to Best Buy.

chilly is such a sweetheart! and when he is in his cage mr. lucky cat sleeps right next to it. I think he is wondering when he gets to play with the really big mouse.

What fun! I have always been an animal lover and I envy you the variety
of your menagerie.

I could do without the turtles. but the chinchilla is a happy little guy. Mr. Lucky Cat continues to both entertain and frustrate!

It just occurred to me that in all these years of blogging you and 'Solitaire' are the only fellow bloggers whom I have met face-to-face. Merry Christmas!

Hubby and I have decided to forego presents for each other in favor of NOT having to be in the stores this late in the season. It might feel weird on Christmas morning, but I'm fine with it. Our daughter is covered, and so are our kids who don't live with us. I'm loving the simplicity and freedom to do this! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

maggie, in previous years we didn't have the money to buy each other presents and this year we just decided to wait until after the holidays. like you, the kids are covered and really that's all that matters.

Donna has a guinea pig that is also very cute, I've trained him to come for hand-fed treats, but they don't live as long as chinchilla's. Hopefully Dakota won't get bored with him. That's how Donna came to have the guinea pig. Merry Christmas, sounds like you're set for a fun week off!

well i won't mind taking care of another pet. dakota will lay on the floor and chilly will jump on his back and just sit there. it's really cute. chinchila's take dust baths and that is really funny to see! they are not supposed to get wet and this is how they keep clean. chilly loves his dust bath!
