Whew ...

I am exhausted. I have been on my feet all day and they
are complaining.

This was the first day we have been free of visits to the
doctor this week. I made some Christmas candy, did some
shopping and enjoyed the freedom to stay at home.

Ted had a pain stimulator put in his back. It fools the
brain into not perceiving pain. It apparently is working
and if it continues to work for a week, they will remove
the temporary thing, let it heal and put it in his back
permanently after two weeks. It has made a difference in
his balance already. His neck and back are so messed up that surgery is not an option. They are afraid that he would
lose functionality if they operated.

Adrienne has been staying with me after school even though
her father is home. We love having her with us.

The crowds are really overwhelming. I can't believe the
economy is that bad because the stores are crowded. When
I started to park at the grocery store, a woman came running
and told me she was out of gas and asked if I had any money
that I could give her. I felt bad because I shop with a
credit card and pay it off each month so I seldom carry
cash. When I got in the store, a man told me it was a
scam. She had hit him up in the parking lot at Goodwill.
That made me feel a little better. He gave me a lecture
about this sort of thing happening during the holidays.

IT angers me that people prey upon our sympathies... But I am glad you didn't have any cash on ya anyways. Glad ya got a day at home! Sounds much needed...

Like the shoeless homeless man the NYC policeman responded to, one never really knows. Sometimes you get burned, but then, other times.....

Dottie, my family is enchanted with white chocolate. I made that easy
stuff where you melt white chocolate and stir in crushed peppermint, then
I dipped pretzels in white chocolate. I think Adrienne stays with me
after school because I have better snacks than her Dad provides.

Everyone seems to have a big dose of Christmas spirit. My tree is up, my
cards and packages all sent.

Those beggars hang around at highway rest stops and do the same thing with hard luck stories about how their car needs work and they are stranded there with all their kids. Even when you know it's a scam, it is troubling to be approached like that.

That's wonderful that the pain management is helping. What a miracle if Ted gets more of his mobility back.

The doctor and the sales rep for the stimulator are staying in constant
contact. They fine tuned it today. Ted says it is instant relief. He
can walk around without his walking stick!

Glad the pain stimulator helped Ted. Can you tell me a little about it? My sister has never been free of shingles pain and has suffered for 9 years. Her pain meds hardly work at all and I don't know how she bears it because it is daily and relentless.

When you said the woman hit you up for gas money, the first thing I thought was "scam". I guess it's my big city mindset.

I felt really bad that I couldn't help that woman until I got in the store
and this nice man told me it was a scam. Somehow these electrical wires
with a backpack and a hand held remote are able to deceive the brain. They
don't help everyone so there is a trial period and then a surgery to
implant them. I don't know how Ted and your sister have coped with chronic
pain. I don't think I could stand it. She should ask a neurologist if
this would help.

I am so hopeful that Ted's pain stimulator will continue to offer positive relief and function for dear Ted. Some years ago, I used one with success to recover from an injury, so I feel positive for him. Sending hope and hugs!

Sorry you ran into a holiday scammer. Yes, we must be watchful, alas. But I won't let the would-be crooks turn me into a Scrooge!

I am glad to hear that you were aided in your recovery with a stimulator.
Ted is very pleased with it so far and dreading Monday when they will declare
the trial closed and send him home to heal for surgery.

Christmas candy??? I'll bet the GPS in my car can find you in Oklahoma!

Dottie, your reply is above.

And, isn't it amazing that I read that whole post and had thoughts about people asking for money in parking lots, but my attention went right back to the candy?
