The Curse of Methamphetamine

Meth manufacturing is rampant in Oklahoma. If a person is
unaware of the consequences and uses it, they will soon find
themselves with decaying teeth, weeping sores and meth induced
psychosis. There is a loss of contact with reality, delusions, paranoia and hallucinations.

One would think that in a quiet suburban household like ours,
that it would never touch our lives but it has . My nephew,
a good looking, bright young man with a masters degree in
xray technology is in jail for the second time because he
is unable to leave it alone. He has, in effect, lost touch
with reality and lost his medical license as well.

Last night, my favorite sister in law called and told me tha
our niece had unwittingly been living in an apartment that
had a meth cooker next door. The cooker set the apartment
complex on fire, killing his sister, and fled. My niece had
renters insurance but all her belongings are damaged and she
had to move back home.

Evidently the drug is easy to make but highly volatile.
Some of the ingredients are alarming. Lye is one and
cold tablets are another. I find it hard to believe that
people would inject it into their bodies or snort it like
cocaine.

I dated someone who started on that stuff while I was away at school. Not good, not good at all. Luckily after I broke up with him due to violent spells he got the help he needed and now is married with a child and happy!

its bad here as well , the police are finding houses on a regular basis brewing this stuff up ---have sniffer dogs at all venues where the young people go --fines and jail doesn't have anyeffect on culprits--- ten years ago my youngest son took his own life while on drugs , had warned him when he started using the weed, just answered its only weed dad

The crap is really toxic as well as volatile.Back in the sixties, "meth"was pharmaceutical grade- still addictive and dangerous, but without the fear of blowing up and contaminating a neighborhood. Many things change for the better, but this is not one of them.

I feel so sorry for your nephew and your family. Meth addiction is so very destructive on every level. My heart is with you all....

There are tweakers everywhere now. Even my ex used it without my knowledge. Meth users are called "tweakers." Don't ask me why. I had a friend in CA who can tell if a person is a tweaker simply by looking at their faces.

Like identity theft, I think it's not of a matter of IF we all will ever be touched by crime related to meth, it's a matter of WHEN.

As long as the ingredients are so easily obtainable and cheap with such
a lucrative outcome people will continue to cook.

Drugs in general are still a big deal around here although I haven't heard meth mentioned specifically. Last time it came up in connection with a warning about propane tanks on campers: apparently the cookers were stealing the tanks for a fuel supply.

It is so dangerous to make the stuff and I think the cookers are so paranoid
that they steal a lot of the ingredients.

We had an old geezer living across the street from us when my kids were in their teens. He and his wife had raised their family in that house. A neighbour told me he was a drug dealer but I doubted that until my son told me he had offered him free drugs. I was relieved when he finally died.

A lot of the elderly seem to sell drugs around here. They don't have much
to lose, being old, and are desperate for money so they grow a little
pot and sell their prescriptions. It is sad.

Sorry to say, it is all over where I am too.

They like to cook in areas that are not densely populated and are not
heavily policed.

I am not aware of meth being around here, but I wouldn't be surprised. I am told that one of our trendy little shop owners sells drugs out of her Indian Jewelry store. If it is known, why aren't the police stopping it.

I am so sorry that your family has to endure this. I hope your nephew can get the help he needs and finds his way back to a normal life.

I think Steve's brain has been permanently damaged. His mental state is
that of someone who is bi-polar. I feel very sorry for my sister. During a
manic phase, he gambles and buys things he can't afford and during a depressed phase he turns to drugs. I think she may feel that he is safer
in jail.

it is rampant here too as well. every day you see on the news multiple arrests of people making it. it certainly is scary.

It is dangerous to make it and dangerous to use it. I wonder if the young
man who started the fire in my niece's apartment complex can live with himself after killing his sister.
