Tornado Watches

Yesterday and last night were all about storms. They were
loud and heavy with lots of thunder and light shows. I was
prepared. I have packed up all the things they suggest.
The list is as follows:
Canned Food
Bottled water
Photocopies of important papers
Cell phone
Pet food
Heavy coat
Blankets
Helmets, bike or motorcycle
Unfortunately, we do not have a tornado shelter but I am going
to have one by next season. We shelter in an inside closet.

The devastation and loss of life was worse in Woodward, Ok.
They only had 3 minutes warning and the mobile home park
was destroyed.

Kansas was in deep trouble but I haven't had time to watch
the national news.

Yours from tornado alley. Jeri

Oklahoma City dodged a bullet this time. Sounds as though you truly were prepared though.

Yes, it is especially losing 6 family members at once.

Stay safe! Those tornadoes are all in the news. That sure is a long belt- from Texas through Oklahoma to Kansas.

Yes, I hate that my favorite season is marred by tornados.

Eek I am glad you are all ok... Scary stuff! Why are you waiting so long to build a shelter? Stay safe.

I'm relieved that you and Ted are okay, Jeri. Very scary weather. Brava for your preparations! I feel so badly for the Woodward community. The news reported that the tornado took out the warning siren right at the start, and that is why they had no warning. I like your plans for a safe shelter. Very wise. My apartment building has no shelter either, and the neighborhood shelter is too far away without a car, nearly a 45-minute walk away. If I don't have to have surgery on my knee, I've got to get a bike. The cats and I hide out my bathroom. I do look sharp in my bike helmet.

Even though New York City used to have hurricanes and blizzards and temps sometimes in the minus area, I never found these events life-threatening. Down here I'm always looking over my shoulder during hurricane season.

I've yet to understand why anybody builds a mobile home park in those parts. I suppose it has to do with affordable housing, but it's not so affordable if it can be demolished in one storm. And cell phones? If buildings can be destroyed it seems that cell towers can be taken down or shorted out pretty quickly. We have floods around here, even tho you'd think that being in the mountains means that water always runs downhill. Nope, but compared to other places, a flooded basement isn't half bad. I guess it's going to be a long summer for you if the pattern keeps up.

We will. Next year I hope to have a fully equipped cellar or safe room.

Sorry to hear about this and happy that you were not in the way.
Mike says, nice talking to you and keeping informed.

It was nice talking to the two of you. Thanks for your concern.

Take care there, dearie. I can see you and Ted huddled in the closet wearing bike helmets. I'm so irritated because we could have used a giant blizzard snow storm here, but no. All the energy whizzed past us and went to your area.

It all went to Kansas and Nebraska. I thought you would get the one that
touched down in Woodward and it would bring you snow.
