Nothing Special

I got Answered Prayers mailed to Laura, visited with a few
neighbors about the City Council Meeting last night and did
some grocery shopping.

I don't think I told you about the City Council Meeting. They
were trying to sneak a proposal to place a home for homeless,
veterans who were also unwed mothers into our single family
neighborhood. It is a good possibility that some of them
would be schizophrenic and it would increase traffic a great
deal. Ellie and I went to protest along with a horde of
homeowners. We prevailed. It was horrid. They started
twenty minutes late and it was very hot. I would have stayed
until the end but Ellie was antsy since the girls were alone,
even though Adrienne is 14 and my phone battery was down and
she had left hers at home. I know these people need a place
to live but we don't need the traffic or to have our neighborhood turned into something other than single family
residences. Believe me, it wouldn't stop with one facility.

It was lovely outside this morning but has become very windy
and hot. I will be having my coffee on the porch in future.
Fredo will take a picture and post it while he is here.

I am glad you understand Kristy. There is no shortage of available land
around here for these places..it is just cheaper to buy an existing house
but we have zoning laws for that. If they get by with it once they will
do it again. I have seen it happen before.

In New York City, lived around the corner from a homeless shelter. These dregs (some bussed down from Rikers Island, i.e., parolees and such) never bothered me.It's gone now, replaced (I think I wrote this in my New York post) by a high rise and $1,000 a dress boutiques. (I think this is worse because it jumps the neighborhood to being affordable only to the 1 percent). Along with your activism to save the neighborhood, perhaps you can think of other solutions to suggest.

Unlike NYC there are acres and acres of undeveloped land which would allow
for traffic and facilities for group homes.

I guess it is hot where you live. For us, the weather has held out and it is not too hot yet for this time of year. Good thing too because the winter droughts seem to last longer every year. By now, we usually have rain at least every other day.

We have had twice as much rain this year as last year. Weather patterns have
become very strange.

we have somewhat the same deal here at Shady Pines. it is 'asposed to be for the elderly and disabled. Well, the definition of "disabled" includes folks with drug, alcohol and mental issues. In my opinion, these folks don't belong in a facility with the elderly and physically impaired. True, they need a place to live, but not here.

yer I agree with you pal

You are so right. I think it would be ideal just to have the physically
handicapped and elderly at Shady Pines. Then split the mentally disabled
and the recovering addicts into their own places. No one realizes how much
more traffic a group home generates and it is bad for the children who live
here and have a neighborhood school.

This sounds like fun.Today is a great day and no rain for a change.
Getting ready to plant the garden before we are heading out to see you.
Will be here for the long weekend to work on this.

Good. The garden should be sprouting while you are gone. I am hoping for
a ripe tomato when you get here.

Maybe you can help me identify Kate? I would like to know who he was talking about. He is P. B. Jones.
