Mother Love

Mother love is fierce and protective and it just washes over
you when you are presented with that tiny infant for the
first time. Yesterday, I thought of what my son looked like
as an infant as well as my daughter. My daughter was my first child and somewhat remarkable because she was such
a pretty baby. She was born with brown eyes and had rosy
and flawless skin. Bobby looked like a little pirate, all
bound up in his receiving blanket.

Yesterday, my son took me out to lunch at his new, favorite
Mexican place. Ted was too ill to go and it was very
disappointing but Ellie and the children were there. It
was a treat to see all the Mom's being remembered. This is
one of the payoffs to a job well done. We do the best that
we can with our children as a rule. I know there are exceptions to that rule and I am sorry.

Unconditional love is hard to dish out but it is what
Mother's do.

Yes, you are so right about that overwhelming sense of love when you hold a newborn. Now, that is falling in love!

I guess I jumped the gun with regards to "the thoughtless, selfish daughter". Apparently, she was at Disneyland with her son and a friend.

I think most parents often feel under-appreciated. It goes with the territory. Hope Ted is feeling better.

Maybe some day the thoughtless, selfish daughter who lives a block and a half up the street but doesn't even call me on Mother's Day will realize the truth in your last sentence.

That is sad and unfortunately she will live to regret it.

There's nothing like holding your baby for the first time. And then you turn around twice, and you get to see what kind of adults they've become. It's all very gratifying. Loved the post!

So true. It is really gratifying and amazing to share their lives when
they are all grown up.

My mother was very critical of me and always bragged to me about what my sister was doing. I never knew if she stood up for me behind my back. One time I asked my sister did our mother brag about me to her, and she said no. Fortunately, my dad liked me.

The mother - daughter relationship is fraught with peril. It is only since
Linda has matured that we have become close.

I adore Mexican food. Sounds delish! I am glad your son took you out to eat! How nice... Sorry Ted isn't feeling well.

Tex-Mex is even good early in the morning. When I worked at the Shelter, Marcella, one of the clients was Mexican. She made scrambled eggs with
flour tortillas torn up and cooked with them. Sounds horrible but it was
very good.

There is a baseball field behind our house and a tiny, tiny little girl
was trying out her first steps while her father was flying kites. Rex
was nearly crazy with joy and dying to get close to her but of course
he is too big for kids that little. He loves children.

We make so many sacrifices for our children; but it's all worth it. And you are right. We are handed this little bundle for the first time, and it is love at first sight. Isn't that just amazing?

It is amazing and I guess it is pure instinct because it happens the same
way in the animal world.

My mom was always there for me and bailed me out of a couple of major missteps with her love and infinite emotional resources. And, of course, if there was ice cream, I always got her dish too.

She sounds wonderful and I am glad you got to keep her so long.
