After the Flood

I cannot believe how oblivious we were to the situation. We knew that Rex had jumped in bed with us due to the heavy thunder and lightning, (cowardly lion that he is). It just made us extra sleepy and after I made coffee we decided to just have a lazy day. One in which we could just be self-
indulgent and lounge around and watch movies.

At noon, our friends in Wichita called to see if we were
all right and alerted us to the fact that we had a record
rainfall...ll.9 inches at Coffey Creek in just a few hours.
Since we live on a hill and our little suburb has a good
drainage system, we were not affected. Most of the homes that had the high water were in a much wealthier suburb.
Since Oklahomans hardly ever get flood insurance, few were
covered.

I was anxious about Adrienne. It was her first day as a docent at the Science Museum. One of the Fathers got her there but a 20 minute trip took an hour and a half because
so many roads were closed.

Unfortunately the flash flood in Arkansas was much worse and
there were twenty people killed by the last count. Our
weather is totally freaky. We had a blizzard on Christmas
eve, a cold spring with millions of dollars in hail damage
and now flooding. Insurance companies are beginning to
want to stop insuring Oklahomans according to an article in
Sundays paper.

The Godess must be very angry.

I was wondering how you fared in the flood. Glad to know everything is fine. We're in Oklahoma, but the car is in the shop. Sorry, Jeri. Maybe on our next trip out.

Citizens insurance run by the state is the main insurer for waterfront property in Forida and their rates have gone up. Ed says a few other companies will insure but at ruinous rates. This got worse after the 5 or so hurricanes that hit Forida in 2004-5.

According to the news, all the people stranded in high water were rescued
without any mishap, other than losing their cars.

In CA the insurance moguls would not insure for all quake damage, and we were given the 15,000 or 15 percent of damage option by the feds. Fifteen thousand didn't even cover the damage to my brick chimney. It cost 22k to replace it.

The insurance companies are plenty glad to take our money and I had not known that they would quibble about wind and hail. It isn't fair for them
to be able to pick and choose what states they will insure. Currently we have a one thousand dollar deduction for wind and hail. I think the banking and insurance companies should not be able to influence our Senators and Congressmen in such a way that they can rip us off at will.

Insurance companies want to rake in the premiums but hate paying out. They don't want to insure Florida and Louisiana either, and God forbid they should insure a home in California! Glad you were ok.

How very true. We are grateful that it was no worse than it was.

Scary weather indeed! I am glad you are ok... Rex is very smart.

I am looking forward to hearing about your trip. Rex is very smart. I think I have him trained not to dig. He no longer makes a nest in the flower beds and it only took one scolding when I was really mad.
