I cannot believe how oblivious we were to the situation. We knew that Rex had jumped in bed with us due to the heavy thunder and lightning, (cowardly lion that he is). It just made us extra sleepy and after I made coffee we decided to just have a lazy day. One in which we could just be self-
indulgent and lounge around and watch movies.
At noon, our friends in Wichita called to see if we were
all right and alerted us to the fact that we had a record
rainfall...ll.9 inches at Coffey Creek in just a few hours.
Since we live on a hill and our little suburb has a good
drainage system, we were not affected. Most of the homes that had the high water were in a much wealthier suburb.
Since Oklahomans hardly ever get flood insurance, few were
covered.
I was anxious about Adrienne. It was her first day as a docent at the Science Museum. One of the Fathers got her there but a 20 minute trip took an hour and a half because
so many roads were closed.
Unfortunately the flash flood in Arkansas was much worse and
there were twenty people killed by the last count. Our
weather is totally freaky. We had a blizzard on Christmas
eve, a cold spring with millions of dollars in hail damage
and now flooding. Insurance companies are beginning to
want to stop insuring Oklahomans according to an article in
Sundays paper.
The Godess must be very angry.
