Dogs in My Life

The animals that I have loved most have been dogs, cats and horses. I have had all kinds of dogs ranging from the Heinz 57 variety to Dobermans, Alaskan Malamutes,
Shetland Sheep dogs, Yorkshire Terriers and Rotties and
Of course, my present Golden Retriever.

The dog that I enjoyed the least was the Shetland Sheep
Dog. They bark all the time and tend to herd people if
no goats or sheep are available. My favorites were
Muffin, a pet quality Yorkie and Rex. I did not find the
big dogs in the least vicious but people are not comfortable
around them. Muffin was like a child to us and had the
advantage of being small enough to take on trips.

Golden Retrievers are known for their beauty, charm and sweetness
rather than braininess so it is surprising to me how smart
Rex is. We communicate very well and he is house trained
with never an accident. He tells me when he wants in or
out, I can ask him to come in by rapping on the back door,
He tells me when he has eaten his dinner by seeking me out
and smacking his lips so that he can get the praise he feels
is due him and if he feels hungry he stands in the dining
room and looks into the kitchen. He is polite to other
dogs when he is boarded or goes to the vet but he doesn't
want other dogs in his house or yard. He is not terribly
obedient when walking and he sits down and refuses to
go when he has had enough. He is too strong for me to
walk but this is his only flaw.

He adores children and he still plays although he is six
plus. One of his most endearing traits is to lay his head
on your knee. He is right up there with Muffin on the
favorite dog roster.

The Shetland herding people made me laugh! As much as I adore Erin, my favorite dog was Coco, the choc lab. After 14 years she died of cancer, but all of the kids adored her and everyone has a favorite Coco tale.

Labs are so sweet. Sheltie's are popular with the hearing impaired because
they go crazy at the sound of the phone or door bell. I don't ever want
another one because Sassy was a most peculiar dog.

I miss having horses. Big dogs are so loveable. I am adding you to my
friends list once again. So glad to see you here!

Had many a dog over the years , mainly the Heinz variety, when the family came along so did the pets and not a biter amongst them .
The last one was a German shepherd that my daughter had brought home, no way was I going to have a bar of it , then said we will give it a go for awhile , that lasted 14 years . she was named Sasha still only a young animal and had been desexed , why she become a stray is still a mystery she appeared well fed and we watched the missing page in the paper .
had always thought her breed was a little wild but sasha had the best temperament in all the dogs I had previously

I had a German Shepherd female that was so sweet natured. My cousin always had one for her son because she grew up with one. They are so
protective of children.

One of the best things about Rex is he always smells good. Another is how he has adapted to the speed of your lives.

I think Rex would adapt to any life style. Remember how he racketed around on the farm, always hunting and chasing and swimming in the
ponds? Now he is limited to being a greeting service and a bed partner.

I haven't wanted another dog since our doxxie Huxley died but I know the time will eventually come. Rex sounds like such a good boy.

I hope Rex lives to an advanced age but if we ever get another dog, it will
be a small one. I love the big dogs but they aren't practical in a small fenced yard. Just not another Sheltie! Shelties are good for the hearing
impaired because they go off at the slightest sound.
