I have found an exercise class at the library and am thinking of going on Saturday morning. I have also checked
with Rose State College and found that their theater has
name entertainment. It is so much closer than the O. U.
theater and I can go alone if Ted isn't into it.
In the sixties, this was the elite neighborhood and they
built all their services around it. I have everything so
close to me, even though there has been white flight to
the east and to a newer addition. For example, I am three
blocks from my bank, ten blocks to the library and post
office and just 3 blocks from Crest Grocery famed for it's
variety, cleanliness and cheap prices. Jerms knows all
about Crest. It was a little Mom and Pop store owned by
a Greek family when we moved here. It has since become a
large super market chain within our city. I had the advantage of becoming acquainted with Nick Harroz and his sister Mary Lou before it became so big and they were in
the store all of the time. They have named the Community
Center for Nick. His son went to school with my daughter
and we were extremely depressed when Nick lost his son to
a fork lift accident in the store. That is the only time
Crest ever closed.
Most of the people in this neighborhood built on to their
houses and stayed. As they die off, younger people move in.
Ted and I love it here and my friend Mary, who has a much
larger home in Apple Valley plans on staying in the neighborhood in her parents house and selling her Apple
Valley house. Interestingly enough, a lot of the children
raised here come back when their parents die.
I am getting addicted to instant play on netflix. I can
enjoy all my British dramas without interruption. Jon
mentioned PBS. I can't do without it. I hope it is not
going to get caught in the budget cuts.
