Cats Are on My Mind

I have recently read a lot of Ann Tyler's novels in which
cats always figure. Even though Rex is wonderful, dogs are much more unruly than cats. Cats have all these virtues.

1. They purr.

2. They are not forever demanding food.

3. They are supreme egotists and never need praise.

4. They are happy with their own company.

5. They keep themselves clean.

6. They seldom over eat when left to their own devices.

7. They cuddle when you are sick.

It is no wonder that we have so many cat people.

They are such fun to watch. We had a hot tub room on the farm and we had a
sliding glass door between it and our bedroom. The kittens slept in there
and one adorable black and white one knocked on the door when he wanted in
to cuddle. I gave the two prettiest ones to good homes but we kept the
Calico and she was a treasure.

Cats are less work. No walking them to poop, not muddy paw prints on your clothing and less noisy. Once your cats train you, they just become a family member, letting you do whatever you wish so long as you clean and freshen the litter, keep them fed and allow them the occasional lap time. Yes, cats train humans - not the other way around.

I think cats are cool, but they do not compare to dogs in the LOVE department.

We have had dogs who helped care for kittens and dogs and cats that slept
cuddled up. I adore both species but am missing having a cat. Rex is too
big and rough to trust with another one.

I love dogs but feel they are more difficult to care for. Your list doesn't describe my cats, who demand food a lot, and certain types of cats (mainly tuxedos) do overeat and get obese. Maybe they don't demand praise, but they get jealous of each other. If I stop my morning routine to pet cat A, cat B, who is always by my side will leave. I have to find him and make nice.

China, who has been gone three years had a difficult personality but she
did tricks, retrieved balls and held grudges. They are all so different.
