I Did Not Paint Trees

I found the courage to paint my daughter-in-law and new grandson! I was always afraid to paint her before- what if I got her all wrong? What if she thinks I screwed up her nose or mouth or chin and does not like it? I finally said to heck with it and decided to paint her anyway. I love and hate painting portraits all the same time. I love the challenge and seeing the result- I hate not being able to got exact likenesses.

Bin Laden is dead! I do not rejoyce at any man's death, but I am glad he is gone. Since it happened a few days before the official announcement, I'll be they verified it via DNA first.

You did so well! Did you show her?

I sent it to her for Mother's Day, and I am so damn insecure that I sent flowers too!

Oh Dottie, never under estimate your ability. It's all in the eyes and you captured it to perfection. Awesome!!

The love-hate thing with portraits is ever present. I love painting people and hate that I cannot get absolute likenesses.

I love it. You should paint more portraits.

Of course, I am sitting on pins and needles until I hear from them on Sunday. I am so afraid she will not like it or complain that she has no place to hang it. She has a preference for black and white photographs and poster prints. They are pretty, but they are still prints, and I deliberately used colors that work with their yellow walls. (I subdued the green considerably.)

I think you did capture them and the "feel" of their love and the babes curious attention. Bravo!

Thank you. I am hoping she likes it.

It is wrapped and packaged before I can change my mind and fiddle with it more or chicken out on mailing it.

I think you did a beautiful job, Dottie. So glad you did it! So much of the creative process is achievement over doubts or fears. Proud of you!

As for Bin Laden, I can't help but think of a quote by Clarence Darrow: "There are a few obituary notices I have read with pleasure." I'm so proud of our president and his intelligence team, and those brave Navy Seals! Bravo!

Bless those Seals! cannot imagine going down in a helicopter and not being heard or seen.

This is amazing! You have so much talent!

I muted the green in the background a bit, but I pretty much left it alone otherwise. I hope my DIL likes it.

wow!great job there. No hurry on the trees. It will soon come.
comment by fredo on May 2, 2011 7:57 AM ()
The trees will come next- maybe. I found a tree by a lake that is not as 'twisted' as many Florida trees, but it is pretty.

I think you did an excellent job. What a precious grandson. Congratulations.

Thank you! I started to work more with acrylics and I am beginning to like it more. I still prefer oils, but acrylics dry so much faster.
