Street Aerobics in My Neighborhood in Jakarta

Street Aerobics Anyone?

This is what some people in my neighborhood in Jakarta do at 6.30am on Sunday mornings.

It becomes a real social event after the session because this is when neighbors catch up with each other for chats, share breakfast and socialize in a relaxed Sunday atmosphere.

Sounds like something I might get into on Sundays myself, might be more fun than just doing a brisk walk through the park.

The other place I blog as Windancer. But very rarely these days. Blogging has lost a lot of appeal for me so it's a ''once in a blue moon'' thing. There was a time when there was nothing that would get me up that early in the morning either but now that it's become a habit I quite enjoy it. Glad you enjoyed the vid.

Sounds like more fun than my getting up every morning at 6:30 to go jogging. Thanks for sharing.

Nice -- they should do the same thing here, out in the open, and for free, not indoors in some pricey class.

They do it a lot around Asia, there's other youtube clips of street aerobics in other cities/countries in Asia. It is free but everyone ''donates'' a few rupiahs to the "Jane Fonda wanna-be" because they really do enjoy what she does.

Does everyone get up that early to beat the heat? I make the supreme sacrifice on Sundays and get up at 7:00AM. I need to set up my stall at the local Crafters' Market by 9:00, which is the time I usually get up Monday to Saturday.

yup, that's exactly right....people need to get things done early to beat the heat. I used to get up at 6.30am every morning to do my ''cat chores'' before getting ready for work. Now I get up an hour earlier, do my 30-40 mins walk around the park and then do my cat chores, shower and get ready for work. I do this 7 days a week but of course Saturday and Sunday I dont have to go to work, but I still like to get up early, it's become a habit I guess.

What's the 'service jam' signs???

6:30 in the morning??? LOUD music? All those people up and about? What kind of crazy city do you live in??? Oh for the sanity of Perth!

How come you didn't do the exercises?IF I was even up at 6:30 AM I would be trying out all the carts!!!!
comment by greatmartin on July 23, 2011 9:35 PM ()
"Jam" is the Indonesian word for time and also for clock. So if you need your clock or wristwatch serviced (in the case of wristwatches they can change the battery) they call the number on the sign.

People get up very early here because it is better to get things done as early as possible before it gets hot. By 8 or 9am it is already hot and humid and you sweat like a pig.

I'm thinking of joining in the "aerobics'' sessions starting next Sunday. Might be fun if I dont get all shy or embarrassed...lol.

If you want to try the food sold in those carts you need to have a caste-iron stomach, some food is nice but some are disgusting.
