Ubud Bali - Art Galleries

I
took a trip up to the hills of Bali, away from the beaches and into the
beautiful hills and tropical forests.  I had lunch with some friends at
Casa Luna, a lovely restaurant with a great view of the jungle below.

I had the best table in the house, overlooking the jungle and stream, it was cool and crisp and very relaxing.

I took these pics before my guests arrived.  The view over the rail is breath-taking.

I didnt take a very good photo because there is actually a little waterfall and a running stream which you can barely see here.

Next door is a few rooms (accommodation) which are always booked out.

The restaurant itself is very traditional, with antique furniture and incredible polished timber.

The two waitresses who catered to our every whim. They were just lovely!!

I
wish I'd thought of taking photos of the food we had but I totally
forgot about the camera when my guests arrived and we had heaps to catch
up on.

The
food was gorgeous, Balinese cuisine but we ordered too much and they
ended up taking the rest home in "doggie bags"...lol.  That's an
acceptable thing to do in Bali, you always take left-overs home.

After
they left, I asked my driver to take me to a few art galleries in Ubud
before going back down to Kuta.  Hershey OTR gave me the idea when she
asked me to take photos of Balinese art.

There's
a lot of very talented artists living in and around Ubud, in fact every
year there is an international writer's festival held there in October
and many international writers and authors attend the festival.

Many are attracted to the very talented Balinese artistic painters and so eventually one gallery after another opened up.
These
are works of different artists at four different galleries,
unfortunately it was already late in the afternoon and there wasnt one
that I could watch working his craft.  Tourists are usually invited to
watch the artists at work, in hopes that they will buy their paintings.

Many of these works of art find their way to the major hotels to be hung in lobbies or even in the hotel rooms.

I really love some of the frames too, very decorative and ornate and do the paintings justice.

These next two are my favorites because I just absolutely love frangipanies.

It's
probably a bit of an over-dose of art here so will be going back to
Kuta and back the the beach photos...got heaps more to show you so stay
tuned!!!

have you ever been to Bali? It's Aussie's favorite holiday destination after all!

The art is so different from what we see here (well, goodness, one would hope so, since they are in a whole different culture and climate), it's just fascinating to see.

Great pics! Seems like you're overdue for a video too. I saw the last one on the bridge, and that's been it.

The typically Balinese ones are my favorites. So exotic!
