More Bali Pics ... .
These
set of pics are of a contrast in accommodation for holiday makers in
Bali. My previous post showed the accommodation I prefer, Balinese style
and much smaller than the 5 star resorts most westerners prefer....and
much cheaper to boot. I've
stayed in the five star ones before and yes, they are very nice if you
can afford them...but they are not as friendly and cosy and intimate as
the little Balinese ones.The
guests in those 5 star joints are a lot snootier, and a lot more
condescending to the Balinese and that has always been a source of
irritation for me.Never
the less, this is one of the really beautiful hotels right on the
beach. It is the Kartika Plaza Hotel and I stopped by for lunch on one
of my daily walks on the beach.Of course the entrance to the hotel lobby is on the road but you can also access the back of the hotel from the beach. You
just hop over a low brick wall and you're in the hotel grounds. So I
decided to do just that. I was hot and thirsty and it was almost
lunchtime so I was hungry and decided to park myself at this table and
order lunch. That's just a plain orange juice by the way...and no, that's not a small caraffe of vodka next to it....lol. The waitress came and she pulled the menu off the stand to give to me so I could choose what to order for lunch. While waiting for my lunch, I decided to take a few pics around the place. Here's the rest of the outdoor restaurant area. these trees are covered in hundreds of little tiny fairy lights and they look absolutely gorgeous when they are lit up at night. There's even a little gazebo if you want to have a more intimate and cozy meal with that special someone.See
that rocky island in the background? I walked out to it before the
tide came in and took pictures of the beach from there...I will post
them later on. This
is the main restaurant, just inside this outdoor one. Very poshy and
plush and the menu was to die for...and not as expensive as I thought. You can see the pool area in the back ground. Right next to the restaurant is the pool area and a nice grassy lawn. and the pool itself has a bar where you can sit and have a few drinks...very cool. And for those who prefer to swim on the beach, a short walk from this pool area and you are there. Go through these ornate gates and theres a set of steps you can go down and jump straight in to do some snorkelling. If
you're one of the super-rich or a celebrity who doesnt want the hassles
of dealing with the traffic, you can "chopper" it straight from the
airport to this hotel, or from here to anywhere you want, so long as you
can afford to pay for the chopper hire. The hotel has it's own helipad right on the beach. Now
here's some photos I took from the rocky island that I walked to before
the tide came in. I didnt stay there for very long because I would
have had to swim back otherwise. I
was standing on the rock and that is the hotel I showed you pictures
of..notice how the tide is already coming in and I had to get off and
walk back to the beach very quickly after I took these pics, otherwise I
would have had to swim back...lol. Local Balinese fishermen trying their luck fishing off the rock. These
rocks were very slippery and the millions of little tiny shells that
are embedded in them made it very rough if you didnt have flip flops on. This
Japanese couple brought their little toddler with them to the rock and
the poor little thing got terrified and didnt want to climb onto the
rock. and
finally, back on the beach and the rock is disappearing under the tide.
By mid afternoon you can only see the very top of the island and you
wont see it again until the next morning. To be continued....lots more pics to show you next time.
