Such a Wus ...

That’s me. You may think not because I am so vocal about my opinions, but I am not willing to knock on doors and talk politics to strangers.

Yesterday, Annie, my widowed neighbor’s (he’s been alone about two years) new live-in girlfriend, stopped her bike and we chatted. As the conversation turned to politics, she began to sound like Rush Limbaugh. Also, she is Catholic, doncha know, and she doesn’t think the church should be paying for contraception. I didn’t know where to begin. And she thinks Obama was not born here. This is one mind that no one changes.

I did venture to say that the reason there are Romney signs on lawns (about 20 signs on an island with 500 houses) and all the other lawns are bare, is because Obama supporters fear vandalism and she said no, no, that could never happen (except for 2008 when Obama signs were taken down).

The bottom line is that Gary, our neighbor, and Annie, are getting married on the seawall in a couple of months and I am happy for him. He appears to be recovering with this buxom, tall blonde nitwit, and he went through Hell as he watched Tammy, his then girlfriend (he married her about a month before she died), get misdiagnosed with her body-wide cancer until there was no hope. I thought she was rather shallow, but give her lots of points for being incredibly brave.

I think Gary is getting married on the rebound but hope it works out for him. He's a decent guy, even if he is voting for Romney.

She was not happy with me when we parted and unless I make repairs, I don’t think this relationship is going anywhere. We like Gary, though.

xx, Teal

like that bit ---even if he's voting for romney -- reckon i know who you are voting for --some marriages lasts for years--- others who knows. All you can do is give him your best wishes

I think Rush Limbaugh's fans live in Oklahoma and I know they believe every
lying word he says. There are far too many Annies around here.

Well, if the church shouldn't pay for contraception maybe it should pay tax and the government could pay for contraception.

Churches and religions should not have the power to dictate to anyone outside their flocks how they should live. Personally, I would never work for a religiously funded company, or for a boss in a secular company who would try to dictate my medical solutions to me. I am now thinking that in any job interview, a woman should ask the interviewer: how does your company deal with my medical issues? Do you dictate what I may and may not do? And if she doesn't like the answer, she should walk out. Yes, even in this economy. Some things should not be bought.

Shhhhhh--don't tell Eddie but there are some nice Republicans--rare but there!

My husband, Ed, is a registered Republican, but starting with Sara Palin, he said he'd never vote Republican again. She has no idea how toxic she has been to the mainstream party.

Limbaugh freaks will believe anything he says, all lies, of course. I know one and really feel sorry for him.

I don't know what can be done with people believing the birther stuff. They obviously think society's lying to them.

Your words have a lot of influence here. The thing about opinions, is that people don't want them unless they are seeking them, and even then they may not be willing to listen. So don't feel bad about not converting your neighbors, whose minds are already made up. Do continue to write to those who are undecided, and are truly seeking knowledge and wisdom.

I have a friend like Annie. He's otherwise quite intelligent, yet he doesn't believe in global warming (for which there is abundant scientific evidence) and he does believe in life after death (for which the evidence is nil). Oh, and naturally he's voting for Romney(as is everyone else in this backward state).
