And the Rains Came

I started out for a bike ride this afternoon just as thunder was heard. But so often it threatens, but never reaches us so I decided to chance it. I biked for about 10 minutes and was opposite my gtf’s house when large rain drops began to fall. I pulled in under her deep overhang and called her on my cell. She was okay to hang out so I went up. She has a porch overlooking her pool and it is always dry – how cool is that. We sat out there and then lightning started to happen big time. I thought we were going to get hit. It was right on us. Nadine said that if I had been biking, the lightning would have hit me for sure. The strikes were almost constant for about 20 minutes and very scary.

I tried to call Ed but my cell phone wouldn’t connect. So Nadine called him on her phone. We told him I was okay.
Finally, we decided the rain wasn’t going to let up, so Nadine put my bike in her garage and drove me home.

Nadine has one of those houses that is so well organized that there is room for everything. She has a whole room as a pantry with a second refrigerator and her washer/dryer is in there. And you just open the door and walk in. Our old fridge and washer/dryer are in the garage and it isn’t a convenient walk through. The entryway is narrow and maneuvering the laundry basket and the door is a pain. And I think I have mentioned that the garage is the final resting place for everything Ed has ever owned. When Nadine decides something is no longer useful, she sells it on E bay within the week. Ed thinks she is a bad influence in that regard since the mention of selling anything at all gives him hives.

Nadine has a sewing and arts/craft room downstairs that doubles as a spare room for guests. It opens on to the pool deck. Her garage is neat and their car is in it! We went down in their elevator and got into the car without getting wet. It was magical.

Somebody sent the rain so I wouldn’t get a workout and that is just mean.

xx, Teal

How jealous we all are of your rain! It was l09 last week and over one
hundred the rest of the time. Ed's garage can't be worse than ours. I
need to hire an energetic teen ager to help me clean our garage. Adrienne
wouldn't qualify, I am thinking of her ex boyfriend who lives down the
street but it will have to wait until fall when it is cool.

no place, no place, not to place. Keyboard has a mind of its own.

Love the comment about the hives. I have to place to put an elevator. I will have to scoot up and down the stairs on my backside.

We loved our house on sight because of the location and the layout was spacious. But if it had been two-storey,we would have had to do something about that. My friends down the street have a spectacular house, no elevator, and he can't make it up to the bedroom anymore without having palpitations. There is a seating device that attaches to a bannister. You might check that out should you ever need help.

I spoke too soon--we had a very HEAVY downpour this afternoon--like sheets of glass--and it got rid of the African Dust!!!!

And we had a very heavy rain today as well, but no lightning.

Big storms can be frightening when the lightning is right on top of you. Good thing you were right there, and I'll be it was a good opportunity for a nice visit.

Yes, I'm glad I didn't decide to tough it out by going home. I didn't want to get soaked, but that would have been the least of it. Yes, we did have a nice visit. She is great good company.

Rain? I forgot what that looks like. And an elevator in Nadine's house?

elevators in 2-storey structures that an elderly person lives in (her husband is in his late 80s) are not a luxury. Also, when she slipped in her kitchen and broke her knee, the medics got her downstairs in the elevator, not a small thing.

I guess it's good that it's raining somewhere. Now to get it over the right places....

Thanks, but the midwest needs it even more than we do in the north east.

Sorry I have no cred with whoever organizes the rain or I would send some your way.

A car in a garage? What a novel idea. I must tell DH. He thinks garages are for broken croquet sets, the backpack he hitchhiked around Europe with in his 20s, lawn furniture, big plant pots, the deep freeze, a broken fridge that has pasted from old to vintage, ski equipment, tools, his deceased mother's junk, etc, etc, etc...

Ed and your DH: separated at birth.

I'd rather have the rain than the African dust we are having!!!

so the East Coast is dry? Sorry to hear it. Mind you, I wasn't complaining about the rain. Now only is it mostly good for the area and refreshes the aquafir, but it is lovely to watch on the water. I was just scared. And if it is going to rain, it should do it before or after I want to bike. Is that such a small thing to ask? Huh?
