The skyblue one is home, discharged from the hospital last night, Tuesday. Her daughter, Zabrina, who was so helpful posting on her behalf, is with her. The tests showed contusions on her spine from the fall, which indicates there was not an underlying, persistent weakening before the accident. That is good to know.

Her doctor had given the orthopedic/rehab department an order to give her rehab and they refused. She asked them to show her how to transfer from bed to chair and they would not. I do not know what their reasoning was. They refused to give me a contact number.

I was thinking perhaps she had gone to Texas with her daughter. I was lucky to find her at home in Mississippi. I told Sue to ask her doctor for a prescription that would permit her to get rehab from a facility unconnected with the hospital. I had rehab for my stiff neck at a local physical therapy center, with a prescription from my doctor. She plans to ask for one this very morning.

Ed got on the phone with them to go through what they need to do to protect her assets and allow her to get subsidized care if she needs it. He does this kind of work all the time for his guardian patients.

She and Zabrina will evaluate whether she should move in with her daughter in Texas, temporarily or longer, whatever is best. It is great that they have settled their differences and are family again.

Wish I could do more and I am thinking on it. If I have any large ideas, will post them.

xx, Teal

Her accident was so sad to read about. It could happen to anyone who lives alone!

We all have to think about that as we age. If I am alone, I will get a Life Alert. It is worth the cost to feel there is a way to get help.

How sweet and generous of you (and Ed) to be helping Sue the way you are. Bless you.

I am sure they are backward as all hell in that hospital. I am glad you
and Ed are giving her good advice. She should have been entitled to
rehabilitation. I will call her at home. We all know how independent
our skyblue is.

Navigating the health care services available in back-of-beyond Mississippi is no doubt tricky.

There should be an agency that will come to her home to work with her and Medicare will cover it 100% for a short time. Perhaps there's a visiting nurses org. that could do it or her insurance company may have some suggestions (if she has a Medicare supplement or Medigap policy.) Her health sounds better than what was first thought - I'm sure she's happy about that. Thanks for letting us know how she's doing.
