Halloween's Coming

Halloween will be here soon and I ordinarily like to put on my white witch costume and greet kids wearing it – it’s usually a hit. (You can’t impress some kids.) But I am so very tired that the thought doesn’t resonate this year. Maybe I’ll perk up.

I took a walk down to the big road today and that was it for my energy level. I need to have a destination so I stopped in at Frills and chatted with another clerk. It was Debbie’s day off. They’re all nice and personable.
Yesterday I had a nice phone chat with Sue, my friend who closed up her tailor shop and moved back to Wisconsin. I miss her a lot. She said she would come visit in January. I really hope she makes it. That’s a good month to leave Wisconsin, yes?

She’s doing very well there financially, compared to the struggle she was having here, and her grown kids are there with grandchildren, so she is happy to be near them. She has two others, teens, who live with her and are still in school. Much as I miss her, I know it was a good move for her. She sent me photos of her little dog, Sally, and one special one is now on my screen and I get such a wave of warmth when I look at that little face. I tried to post it but MyBloggers wouldn't accept it.

My sis called to touch base. I haven’t been over there because of my feeling so sick. As much as is going on with her memory, she still knows when she hasn’t seen me, so that is a good sign.

Our friends, Karen and Dennis, who were doing clean up work at a rental they own in the Keys, are back, and we will see them for dinner Friday. They are great fun.

Ed finished a course he was taking to become a guardian for the State of Florida and he passed the course test. Now he has to take a state test, probably in January. The court assigns cases. There will be some paid cases and some bro bono cases. He hopes to be of some use in this area since the ombudsman program has been so dumbed down that volunteers’ authority to make a difference has been severely compromised. Many have quit.

I was watching NCIS re-runs and then Ed came in and wanted to watch old Palladin shows that have been running daily (help). So I withdrew.

xx, Teal

I cannot believe Paladin can still be found in reruns. That is going way back.

Haven't thought of Paladin for a long time. One of my all time faves.

I have seen Richard Boone in other shows with better roles and believe it or
not he was quite versatile.

Yes, I know. There was a western in which he played a truly evil and disgusting character and was very convincing. Actually that was the first time I ever saw him in anything, so Palladin showed me a different side to him.

I love Halloween and the little goblins that come each year. I have already made up about 125 snack baggies; they will all be gone by 9:00 Halloween night.

You've got more energy than I have. The little darlings here will have to make do with mini Snickers and Milky way bars.

And to think O buy all that candy for the 'trick or treaters' and the youngest kid we have here is 62--guess who gets to eat all the candy????
comment by greatmartin on Oct 19, 2011 9:10 PM ()
I still have candy from last year and maybe it's stale now. Our neighbors make a big deal out of Halloween and the husband is so talented that he built a shipwreck on a little tree island in the cul de sac and it had a treasure chest spilling over with stuff. Very effective. I'll hang with them I think. Ed will stay in the house and do his curmudge thing. Oh, he gives out candy, but he finds the whole scene uninteresting.

My nine year old grandson asked to wear my black, witches' dress for Halloween. He doesn't want to be a witch but some character called The Shadow or Smoke or something like that. His 13 year old brother is a good two inches taller than me! When did that happen?

In the 30's, The Shadow was a radio series for many years. Lamont Cranston, during a trip to the Orient, learned how "to cloud men's minds," and became The Shadow. Classic opening "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" answer: THE SHADOW KNOWS. Alec Baldwin played The Shadow in a 1994 movie that had great art deco scenes in it. This particular character waxes and wanes as a popular figure. I think he's enjoying a revival now.

"Paladin, Paladin, where do you roam
Paladin, Paladin, far, far from home

Have gun, will travel reads the card of a man
A knight without armour in a savage land
His fast gun for hire heeds the calling wind
A soldier of fortune is the man called Paladin"

Ed read this post today and your comment and he says he thinks he loves you.

Thanks for the memories!

Even Ed doesn't know these words by heart. I never watched this series. I am seeing some now for the first time. I'm trying to control my enthusiasm.
