Stoicism

I missed the first half of President Obama's job bill speech last night (I thought it started at 8:00E), but I liked what I did hear. He didn't pull any punches ("political circus").

What I didn't like was the Republican reaction. Boehner, Canter, and coherts just sat there stoically scowling in response to Obama's exhortation. They all had the look of determination to oppose everything the President offered.

I realize Republicans live in another world, but what upsets me the most is their attitude. It's a lack of respect for the president's office. No matter what party sits in the White House, respect is due to the leader of our country.

True, they (Repubs) were told to refrain from yelling out or booing, but their physical actions (nonreactions) painted the picture. I don't remember Democrats acting the same way when Pres. Bush was in office. They were polite and respectful for the most part.

It's of my opinion (for what it's worth) that the party in the White House has the right to push agendas forward as it philosophically believes. Congress should abide by the national leader. If certain ideas and laws fail, voters can make a switch and try a different approach. We've been doing that since the beginning of our country.

Respect and back up the party in office. Allow citizens to accept or reject the outcome. It's time for us to become a country of "yes" rather than a country of "NO!"

Not it is not a waste of time IF the darn lazy Democrats would get off their butt and start sending emails, letters, etc. instead of just blogging their thoughts!!

While I don't *really* understand this post , I had to smile because I have missed reading you so much.

And I've simply missed you!!! But I understand your life is complicated and busy. Checking in every now and then is good. We're still here, spouting out non-essential "goings-on and complaints! Hope all is well.

I am so tired of views of the right. I had a conversation with a military
retiree who was furious over Tom Coburn's plan to cut military pensions. He
had been in 30 years, had tremors from agent orange and a huge scar from
above the elbow to the wrist from shrapnel.

I'm also tired of MSNBC's Republican bashing, despite the fact they deserve it. Does it work? I doubt it. I see a new post coming.

I didn't like that Boehner told his party people not to watch. He said he had to be there; otherwise, he wouldn't go or watch. How rude. I also didn't like that one of my state's reps (Walsh) didn't even go. He was back here in IL. Again, how rude.

I noticed the "house" wasn't full. Rudeness is a good word. Their actions were seen by millions.

I couldn't agree more that the respect for the President is lacking lately. It pisses me off, and I am not big on anything political so that is saying something.

I hope other Americans see it as you did. I'm nervous about Obama losing the next election.

When I wrote to my congressman, I said exactly what you have said: all elected officials need to show respect to the current president. He responded with a canned rant that reiterated the Republican line of mindless opposition to any- and every thing. Mindless robots is what they are, following the party line. But you notice when they can take advantage of a government program, they are right there signing up.

I didn't bother to write my congressman (Rokita). He's so far right, he makes Perry look like a liberal. But hurray for you.

I thought he was a lot stronger than he has been--now if 'we the people' would only back him by telling their reps to vote for the job plans!!
comment by greatmartin on Sept 9, 2011 7:32 AM ()
Which is a waste of time--at least mine. Close-minded people don't change their opinions.

I was put off by the comments afterward too- and the news pandered to the Republican response after the speech. To call it a campaign speech was the worst form of dismissiveness.

Stirring the pot of stew doesn't help. I suppose it's just the way democracy works. A little opposition isn't all that bad, respectfully done.

There is no moral base to the Republican agenda. Their m.o. has turned to "our way or the highway" - they made a pact with the religious right to gain those votes and now that tail is wagging the dog and, next, some Right Wing Minister is going to be knocking on your door at 4 a.m. to be sure you're having sex their way (if at all).

If they look for sex in my house, they'll be disappointed!
