Sandy and Such

All I can say is WOW! What devastation. I'm the first to admit I underestimated the impact. I figured it was media hype, but I was wrong.

I think Gov. Christie was almost "Democratic" with his forward looking words of rebuilding bigger and better. (Plus, he had nothing but praise for Obama.)
Sometimes, no, most times, a catastrophic event--earthquake, fire, hurricane, tornado--will result in a bigger, better, more modern structures and features.
Yes, we lament the "passing" of historical buildings, like the Atlantic City boardwalk. But, "out of the ashes".... And Americans get a charge out of seeing the "new and improved" scenario.

With global warming and oceans levels rising and more powerful storms, we should heed the warnings of climatologists. Sea walls (dikes) are only temporary. Only a fool builds in a flood plain, or, in this case, on a beach. House on the San Andreas Fault? Not a good idea. But, that won't prevent us from trying to stop nature's fury. "Prime real estate" puts blinders on humans. Never mind the potential consequences. We'll see.

By the way, here in north central Indiana, we got the tail whip of Sandy. Lots of wind, some rain, and chilly.

I feel very lucky that we didn't get the brunt of the storm here. I feel for Jersey and NYC, but I do like your perspective of new growth.

My friends and family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are ok. Yes, that was a storm of biblical proportions. Andrew and Katrina did less damage only because they hit less built-up and less populated areas. I too believe these storms are more frequent and severe because of global warming.

I had nobody to worry about "back east". However, that doesn't mean I'm not concerned for all those whose lives were altered. A sad situation, indeed.
Now, how is it you're so busy you have to read 5 posts to catch up? What are you doing? I'll check out your site right now.

BTW: I caught up on all of your posts.

The collateral upside of Christie's generous attitude toward the president is that Romney must be grinding his teeth. Meanwhile, he embarrassed himself by claiming he knows what "clean-up" really means because he once had to clear a football field. Oh.

I've reached the "Romney saturation point". Like I was with G.W.Bush, I can't bear to see or listen to him anymore. If he becomes president, I'll bury my head in the sand more than ever.

Thank goodness we dont get anything like Sandy here, we have a few storms out of the ordinary here in South Australia , unroof a few houses and blows trees over but thats about it.

Do you get quite a bit of U.S. news? I would guess the whole world focuses in on America (the not-so-beautiful).

It's hard to believe there are still some who refuse to acknowledge global warming! Maybe this storm will hammer it into their heads, provided they can get them out of the sand long enough.

I could add so many more things to the "what people still won't believe" list. It's endless.

Yes,we do have problems with global warming. These scientist know what they are talking about and have to go along with them.Christie like Obama but he is an Republican and backed Mitt.
Who know he may change his mind. But the praise for him surely that this will help.
Quite a guy.Feel so bad about Jersey Shore just about wiped out.NYC also with JFK airport closed and this must be havoc.Though we had our share but not bad as these people.
They are going to need a lot of help there.People should start donation to the Red Cross and give blood where you can. They need your help.

I gave blood once--and passed out! Not enough blood. I'll give to the RC (do anyway). Hope you got my email.

People who think global warming is not a problem must be the same fools who believe the "clean coal" ads.

I have friends who believe Science is a myth. Imagine what must goes through their feeble brains while they are glued to their couches watching FOX "News."
