With Sadness

When I hung up the phone last night, I bawled like a baby.

My son-in-law (Nate) called to inform me that my daughter (Emily) lost her "baby" yesterday. She was 3 months pregnant with their second child. Evidently, the fetus had been dead for several weeks. So sad.

They have had nothing but bad luck with their sustainable farming attempt. Bad weather, broken down equipment, poor sales. Now this. But when I heard Nate's voice on the phone, I had even worse (if possible) visions-- like something happened to their 21 mo old son or to Emily herself.

Today is a day of mourning for yours truly.

I'm so sorry. Jenn and I experienced this almost a year ago and it was very painful. There are no words to make it feel better. Just know that we're here for you and them.

I appreciate your thoughts, Jeremy. I didn't know (or remember) you've been through this.

Like Fredo says, sometimes nature knows better than we do that all is not right and steps in. That doesn't make it any less devastating, but hopefully they can keep trying. Hugs to all of you there.

Evidently, miscarriages are more common than we know--like 30%. Emily called me last night to talk about the whole episode. It was sad, but she was strong and determined. Thanks for your concern, Laura.

well as you know these things happens.Sometime for the good. The fetus was
dead for awhile and this could be a blessing. There are reason for this and this is one of them.Yes,it is sad,but worse if she had deliver.
We been there twice and ours were full term.Always a reason.
Too bad that the miscarriage should have been early.
Maybe the next time will be better.Sorry,to hear this.

Coming this early in the pregnancy is better than later. Emily had a suspicion something was wrong. Still, it's never easy to swallow. Thanks for the kind words, Fredo.

I never had the connection that is so common to women that the fetus is the be all, end all reason for existing. Let the baby be born, then I'll bond. I have some experience in this.

I just read where a drunken idiot shot and killed a 4 yr old boy fishing off a pier with his father. Now, that's tragic.
