News & Issues > Right On, Newt!

Right On, Newt!

I didn't watch the republican debate last night, but I saw Newt's explosive retort to John King's "appalling" question to lead things off. You know what? I applaud Gingrich!

I would never vote for him in a million years, but I've got to give the man credit. Moderators and the news media are obsessed with side issues (not "minor", but not really relevant). Perhaps later in the debate the question might, just might, come up, but not right off the bat.

Remember when the news headline in another (Iowa?) debate was Mitt's ten thousand dollar "bet". The major issues regarding the economy, wars, jobless, healthcare, etc., etc., were ignored by the news media. It was "the bet" that made the headlines. Sad.

And speaking of sad, how is it "my man Mitch" (who's not) will be giving the republican response to the President's State of the Union address? What a joke! Another Bobby Jindel (LA) or Michelle Bachman. Pathetic. Mitch Daniels, the governor of my (un)fair state, should be the last person speaking on behalf of the republican party.

As G.W. Bush's financial guru, he single handily drove our nation into a monetary crisis. And I have absolutely NOTHING good to say about him as my governor. I hate to say it, but WTF? I try to ignore politics, and I try to stay CCC (cool, calm, and collected) about the subject. But I can't help myself. Idiots, all.
Time to go beat up on my punching bag!!

(Oh yes, "new" avatar is really two years old, but Blogsterella complained about not being able to see my handsome face!)

If it were one failed marriage with infidelity in it, it would be just standard fare and his indignation would be normal. But Newt, with his lifelong habit of combining political fame with continual women, is just unsanitary.

I like your word "unsanitary". At first, I read it as "insane", which also works.

Gingrich's cool in the face of uncomfortable questions is a well-schooled one. When you can't defend yourself, get indignant, attack the media. I don't applaud him at all. I'm impressed with his quick wit, but it is used in defense of all the wrong behavior, not just private behavior, but his entire career.

Attacking the media (by Newt) will only exacerbate the issue. Rachel pointed out several other ways that should have been used by John King to probe the fundamental question. According to her, the question was not phrased right.

News is news and news people are charged with reporting it. The questions are their choices, not the candidates'.

My take is this - what does Newt's request for an "open marriage" say about his constant harping about upholding Republican "family values?"

Picky, picky, picky! But you're right, of course. C'est la vive.

I happen to think a candidate's personal ethics or lack of them are supremely important in choosing a president. Gingrich is a total hypocrite, and the moderator's question was not out of line in the least. And it hit a nerve — very revealing. GOP evangelicals are compromising their stated values right and left in even considering Gingrich, and that too is obvious. Gingrich should have expected the question and could have handled it much better. His imbalanced reaction shows what happens to his temper under stress. He tried to deflect it towards the press, a classic GOP tactic, which is a bunch of hooey. Not a pretty picture.

I won't argue, although I disagree on several points. We'll just leave it at that.

They should have left this out.Go on with important things.Your right have to give him credit for lashing out to the moderator. But that is it.Not my man to be prez.

You and me both. I'm confident Obama will be re-elected.

He is a creep. The very epitome of crooked politics.

They all "creep me out". Except Barak Obama!

It would be hypocritical for the "Moral Majority" to vote for Newt, especially if their only reason is to beat Obama. Newt's past hardly makes him a fitting poster boy for morality in America, especially as espoused by the conservative Christians.

But you gotta admire his smarts and "gutsyness". He had to have known this fidelity issue would come up in the debate, and he was quite prepared to respond.

By-the-way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
