Reminders

The other day, my daughter asked me to do my "Chester Honeyhugger" impersonation. For you "younguns", that was one of Red Skelton's characters. I was surprised she remembered ol' Chester. She recalled several others I did.

When I was a kid--and later a parent--I had quite a bag of characters. I think my first was from Jonathon Winters--Maud Frickert, for example. I tried duplicating some of his comedic routines.

I loved Ernie Kovacs, "Percy Dovetonsils" being one of my favorites. I was a great "Gabby Hayes". Paul Lynde: "You think it's easy?"

You get the idea. I got a kick out of imitating TV characters, Gomer and Goober (from Andy Griffith), "The Poor Soul" (Jackie Gleason), many others. My kids loved them. Of course they didn't know who the originals were, but never mind. They laughed.

Now it's time to re-introduce them to a new generation--my grandkids!

Maybe I am not so old... a few there I don't know like Percy Dovetonsils- but I sure will go to Youtube and learn who they are!

Also, I do a perfect Munchkin saying, "Follow the Yellow Brick Road".

I can see you doing both characters.

I used to do a great Billy Eckstine singing "Everything I have is yours."

I think Winter's. I did do Clem, too. Red was from Indiana, you know!

Hmm, the ad on your post is for Vega = it must be tracking me = I went to a talk by Brendan Brazier, creator of Vega a few days ago, and have been looking at his sites... (bought his book, got it signed, and got a picture with him too... still floating from that experience).

And (of course), I know neither of who you mentioned. I have no excuse. You do, for never hearing of those I referred to. Asparagus up yet?

Hmm. I know of Suzanne Vega and Brendan Frazier, not Brendan Brazier or just Vega. Does that make me old?
reply by boots586 on May 25, 2012 1:07 PM ()
I know none of them!

I used to do impersonations too but I did them for boyfriends.

Hmm, what kind of impersonations--like Gypsy Rose Lee?!

I remember all those characters. Does that make me old?

Just barely old enough to remember the good ol' days of early television!

Probably stupid, but what the heck.

Do you mean Winters' Chester Honey Hugger? or Skelton's Clem Kaddiddlehopper? My dad was a fan of Red Skelton. We used to watch the show together.

Hmm. My reply went to the top (?????).
