Noodling

Okay, where was I? I'd like to know why these remaining basketball games are on TV so late? My usual bedtime is 11, so staying up 'til midnight is ridiculous. Good thing I'm not a working stiff.
Speaking of stiff, I decided to beat the wind and rain (30mph forecast for today) and get an early jog in--before breakfast. At my age, the old knees and ankles need some time to unstiffen. Now I can take it easy for the rest of the day. We've got the Cubs, golf (?), and basketball to occupy my so-called valuable time.
Actually, I need to start organizing for my trip next week (I'll explain later). If it weren't so dang windy, I'd put up a rabbit fence (garden), or some gutters I bought for my garage last week. I mentioned I finally got my house eaves cleaned out a couple of weeks ago? I hate climbing an extension ladder two stories.

I was reading my Vegetarian Times magazine last night (although I'm not a vegetarian), and got a good idea for a noodle asparagus snow pea dish for supper tonight (using frozen veggies from last year's garden). But I discovered I hadn't replenished my noodle supply. Drats. I'm wondering is elbow macaroni will work?

My sister Barbara--the one that took over our dad's house-- had a minor crisis when raccoons nested in her attic. They had 5 babies, two of which fell through the ceiling into her dining room! She got animal control to capture the rest. Can you imagine?! She was in a state of panic. She and dad are still "feuding" about everything. In this case, who pays for the removal and damage caused by the 'coons?

That's all the "noodling" for today, Sunday April 3, 2011.
Have a good one.

Your sister is a real trip! I think she is an ungrateful b---h. Do make sure your ducks are in order before your Dad passes. I hope he has a will.

Like I've said before, she's not as bad as it sounds (I don't think!). Although Dad says "No wonder she's been through 3 marriages and countless boyfriends!" And yes, he has a good will. They get his money, I get the farm land (land rich, cash poor). But I'm good with that. I asked for it.

Heed Laura's advice. Sisters can get pretty greedy when money is at stake.
I know this from experience.

I've noticed! They get it honestly--from our father.

"Noodle" is one of my favorite verbs, by the way. You'll find it in the unabridged dictionary, not the usage Marg referred to, rather this one: "to improvise, experiment, or think creatively."

I suppose that's why we refer to the brain as the ol' noodle! Thanks for the lesson.

I trying to figure out how the raccoons fell through the ceiling, poor little guys. one does need to keep things weather tight as clever raccoons will find a way inside if there's an opening someplace. My stepmom had a couple raccoons move into her unused wood stove; she hadn't noticed the chimney cover was ajar. They were happy as clams in there for a spell before she heard them going in and out and in. She had a live trapper come and relocate the furry interlopers to a rural area. I can't figure out your sister. It's her home now. Why wouldn't she pay to take care of the repairs?

Barb didn't say how the raccoons got in. I even painted the house and didn't see any openings. I'll find out this week. As for the house, Dad still owns it, Barb pays rent (although that's another story). So really, it's his responsibility to maintain the condition. However, as I said below, he'll argue or dismiss or accuse her of causing the whole episode. She doesn't want to go through the fight and will bite the bullet.

Randy the only complaint you'll get from me is that I have nothing to complain about!

I've never heard of "noodling" before so I googled it. I was disgusted to find it's fishing for butt ugly catfish with your bare hands. YUCK! Although, I don't suppose it's any more disgusting than baiting a hook or clubbing the poor thing to death. I could never take up fishing as a hobby. How did I get on to fishing? You didn't mention fishing in your article. Thank goodness.

I really invented the word, combining doodling and googling with my noodle dish I spoke of. It just came out "noodling". But thanks for the information on catfish grabbing!! I had no idea!

Poor little raccoons.

The living ones were taken by someone that cares for wild animals, so not to worry. I won't tell you what I think of them, especially after they've taken down all my sweet corn.

That is so funny about the raccoons falling through the ceiling. Mostly because it didn't happen to me (yet). That Barbara, she's really something. Compared to her, you're merely thrifty; she's a (borderline?) chisler if you ask me. Get all your ducks in a row before your dad dies or she'll steal your farm in the course of settling the estate.

You know how wives of cheating husbands "stand by their man"? I see myself doing that with Barbara. I keep saying she's not as bad as I make her sound. But I'm beginning to "see the light". Perhaps she is. Both my sisters are very manipulative. I wonder where that comes from? I'm being cautious and wary, don't worry.

I wish I had as much leisure time as you--today it will be in the low 80s and I HAVE to go to the pool, read the Sunday paper, take a swim, get some sun--and then there is the 'meeting of the mindless' on the breezeway, also tonight is the start of "The Borgias" on TV while at the same time there is "Nurse Jackie", "The States of Tara", "The Killing" the 3rd part of "Mildred Pierce" not to mention having to be on The Point at 11:30 PM to enjoy the night air, looking over Karen Bay and seeing the starry sky--whew! I haven't even started and I'm tired!

Buck up, guy. I know life can be tough sometimes, but you gotta take the bad with the good. (Good grief)

you are leading one fine life. no complaints from you please.

I would hope she pays for it since she took over the house and he had to find somewhere else to live. I mean GEEZ! Elbow macaroni will probably be delish!!!
comment by kristilyn3 on Apr 3, 2011 7:41 AM ()
If I were to guess, I'd say Barb will pay for it all--only because she doesn't want to "confront" (argue) with father. As for the macaroni dish, it WAS delish!!! Soy and hot sauces made it so.
