Ketchup

I do love ketchup (catsup?), but I'm referring to "catching up" on some life events.

First off, guess what? my septic system is completely installed, ground leveled, toilets flushing! The man finally finished it all off and has been pain in full ($8500). Now all (ha ha) I have to do is spread some dirt around and plant grass seed. That'll be next Spring.

We're in the middle of a severe drought. I've had about a half inch of rain in the past 8 weeks (going back to July). Everything is shriveling up. I have had to water all my garden crops. I may lose some trees. My lawn hasn't been mowed in well over a month. It MAY rain today. Keep fingers crossed. (Praying hasn't helped around these parts!)

The good news is that farmers are way ahead of harvesting beans and corn. And their yields are very good, expenses down and prices high. Not that I ever felt sorry for them before. Govt. subsidies have kept them afloat for many years. Still, I'm happy for them.

Normally at this time, I would be cleaning the Lions ice cream machine and trailer. But I have officially resigned from the club (due to the golf league dictators in the Lions Club). So I have extra time on my hands. More time to cut, haul, split and stack firewood. I've done a lot of that lately.

Sister Barbara continues to remove her items from my house into Dad's. She's driving him crazy (and vice versa). I just listen to each of them complain, and laugh. It's nice to be living alone again.

Okay, time to go jogging. Sunday night football--the Colts!

We were shocked when we got home and it was 69 degrees. I didn't lose but two plants.

Hope you have rain. Or, as Walt Kelly said in his Pogo strip, "Does you skoosh a bug, you gits rain" (from that old myth that rain is God crying because you have killed one of His creatures). So, perhaps you should go out and kill a few bugs? Your dad and sis seem to be a good match and maybe, though it may feel aberrant to the rest of us, they enjoy the conflicts?

Good ol' Pogo. I miss him. As for my Dad and sister, I haven't figured that one out. Mom was very passive, so Dad ram-rodded everything. Barb calls him on it as he continues to act as always. They're different, yet similar, in so many ways. The battle wages on!

I'm with Martin- you are welcome to some of our rain. Too bad I cannot send it your way.

I guess this is Florida's rainy season. I received 0.2" today--hardly enough to wet the ground. None forecast.

It's rainy (and hurricane) season here--want some water??
comment by greatmartin on Sept 19, 2010 10:49 AM ()
Any amount would be appreciated, Martin. And to think farmers had to replant fields last Spring because of too much rain.

Here, it's been 10 degrees above normal every day for at least a month, and zero precipitation, so I've been watering, too. Yesterday there was a temperature inversion and it was 50 degrees in the cities right along the mountains, 84 degrees up here. I'd trade them any day.

Tonight's game is the "Manning Bowl" isn't it? I liked those TV ads that Payton Manning did a while back. I can't remember what he was advertising, but I thought they were funny.

We missed our forecasted rain. Temps today are supposed to get over 90. Yes, those Manning commercials were great, whatever they were for!

I am excited for Sunday football as well. GO PACKERS! I am glad all is well with the septic.

Oh yes, the Lambeau Field gal! The Packers look pretty forminable.
