The Jury is Still Out

For those of you who care, my first date with Lynn is history.
For starters, she was 30 minutes late, although she thought we were to meet at 6:30 rather than 6:00 (I have email proof). The Pizza Hut parking lot was hot! And I worried something happened (like to me, where I barely avoided a rear end accident right behind me). She was apologetic, and all was forgiven. I told her "waiting heightened the anticipation". But my cut flowers for her wilted in the heat.

We split a vegetable pizza. I hate conversing while eating. I couldn't tell you what the pizza tasted like. We took a walk in the park, then drove to another park with a pond and sat and talked. Total time together- two and a half hours.

She's really "adorable", although, like me, aging. I have to be realistic. I'm not a teenager anymore. No more hot chicks. But she's still quite attractive and healthy looking. I liked the way she listened (and I hope I didn't talk/boast too much). I also liked what she had to say about herself and her outlook on life. She's a magazine publisher--THE publisher--which impressed me.

I took all your advice, tried to be a gentleman, and was "myself". I couldn't totally "loosen up", remaining a little nervous and self aware of how I was behaving. I'm sure we'll be seeing each other again, so I hope to be more at ease on future dates.

We have much in common, and some differences (she likes beer, I like wine). But it's the personalities meshing that's important. I think I like our chances. Time will tell.

YAY! Glad to hear it went well... very annoying she was late but you will know in the future if that's a constant or an honest mistake. I am sure she was thinking the same about you in terms of age...

She apologized profusely about the time mix-up. No big deal. You've had your "soap opera" turn. Now it's mine (dating and all)!

So glad it went well.
Remember what I told you not to go on about in conversation because even the second date is too soon for plumbing and religion.

Yep. Those subjects are still taboo. We're just scratching the surface, mostly by email. Second date awaits.

I just wanted to let you know how happy I am that you are putting yourself out there!!! In May Parker and celbrated our one year anniversary!!!! He pedicabbed me to our favorite local band at the Friday night concert!! He is an incredible dancer and he loves to sing songs to me, it still makes me melt everytime!!!

Hi Barb! First, congratulations on your "anniversary" with Parker. Maybe some day I can celebrate an anniversary. I'm still happily single, but already thinking about things I can do with a partner (besides sex!). Like I've been wanting to hike in a state park, but not just by myself. Now maybe I'll have a companion! We'll see. Take care.

Well at least she didn't excuse herself to go to the bathroom and not return Good luck to you Randy!

She was so smitten with me, she never excused herself for any reason! And neither did I.

Glad to hear it all went well! You have "proof" that she got the time wrong??? Good grief! It's not about "proof" or being right or wrong! Some people forget the time when they are anxious. It is a way of unconsciously undermining themselves/ the opportunity be it a first date or a job interview. etc.. It is likely the most common way ordinarily secure people express their insecurity. Good luck!

Men are always right--you know that! Never asking for directions and all that jazz. I know someone who got more than the hour wrong--she was off one whole day!!! Talk about "good grief"! Tee hee.

Sounds good. What does she publish? Keep us in the loop.
comment by tealstar on July 9, 2011 11:43 AM ()
"Indiana Living Green" is the mag she publishes. She's looking to retire (after all, she's 66 yrs old).

Yeah, that pesky self-awareness. It's even outwardly visible to others. As you stated, it passes with more time together.

Hopefully, there will be a next time! At least she hasn't rejected me yet.

'I'm not a teenager anymore.' I could have told you that!!! Still every first date, no matter how old you are, makes you revert to being a doofus 16 year old!!!
Glad it worked out but be careful.

Martin, you really make me !! So true, so true.

I have been waiting to hear about this. It appears to have gone well and
that makes me happy.

If our next "date" is a walk in a state park, it WILL be "one step at a time"!
